Bend/Pivot Joint In Reverse?

First, I know as a workaround I can pin joints. That's not what I'm asking about...

Is it possible to reverse the pivot of a joint? For example, if I have a character standing on one foot and bend the corresponding leg at the knee joint, the character's planted foot lifts off the ground. Instead, I'd like to reverse that pivot so that the foot stays planted and the rest of the body/joint chain follows the bend "the other way"

Is that possible?
