Can Winter Fantasy for Genesis 3 Female(s) ( https://www.daz3d.com/winter-fantasy-for-genesis-3-females ) use the textures:
Frost for Winter Fantasy ( https://www.daz3d.com/frost-for-winter-fantasy )
Wild Winter for Winter Fantasy ( https://www.daz3d.com/wild-winter-for-winter-fantasy )
I did check the forums for this answer before asking.

Okay same situation for this item:
Sighni Outfit for Genesis 8 Female ( https://www.daz3d.com/sighni-outfit-for-genesis-8-female-s )
These texutres:
Celtic Sighni ( https://www.daz3d.com/celtic-sighni )
Sif ( https://www.daz3d.com/sif )
The Red Queen ( https://www.daz3d.com/the-red-queen )
Is there a forum where it lists all the DAZ textures from previous generation that are compatible with G3 or G8 versions of the product?
Yes. (Or, at least, I've tested some of them, but if some textures from one generation work the others should also work - I don't believe any of them have reason to rely on custom UVs).
With almost all of these product series, the texture layouts are compatible across the generations. It's entirely possible to use textures from the V3 Morphing Fantasy Dress on the G8 version. Obviously the older materials are for 3Delight rather than Iray (so need updating), and the quality is sometimes noticeable (some older models have fake shadowing painted on to the diffuse textures), but they will line up correctly on the model.
G3 should work with G8 and vice-versa.
Earlier generations require converting in some way
Nicstt, thank you for replying. I own all the converters/tranfers for everything conceivable in DS, but in this case I want to apply a texture made for a G2F product. If I have the G3F/G8F product that "looks like" the G2F will I be able to apply the texture? Will it fit properly? Appearances can be decieving and I do not want to buy it and then return it, especially if somebody has both products and knows they work together.
Matt_Castle, thank you for replying too. I am not certain I follow your comment. The MFD states it can use previous generation textures. The 2 items I mentioned do not confirm or deny compatibility. Also I do not understand the comment about custom UVs.

In general, at least for the PC sets, textures work. However, one potential catch is the use of Hierarchical Materials presets for applying a set of materials tto all the elements of a multi-part item as they will throw errors if used with the wrong base figure (this is also an issue when AutoFitting a set to another figure) - if you run into that the trick is to parent the clothes to the correct base figure (they don't have to be fitted), then apply the preset to that, then optionally save a regular Materials preset for each piece.
Hi Richard,
I could really use a walkthrough for this.
I have to select the G8F outfit in the scene hierarchy and turn off "Filter by Content" in the Surfaces tab. I would look for the G2F texture under Presets (item Materials) in the Surfaces tab and apply "Merge Into Scene".
When I do this I might get errors concerning the use of the wrong base figure if the material preset is a Hierarchical Material instead of a simple Material. When this happens parent the G8F clothing to a base G2F figure (don't worry about auto-fit) and then apply the texture to the clothing. After that I can save each material in the outfit to its own duf file under the File | Save As | Material(s) Preset menu. Also I can then remove the base G2F figure and fit the G8F outfit to the G8F figure.
Is this correct? Please correct my errors.
Pretty much anything that is a refit can be coaxed into taking the textures for the original version. There are exceptions. The Stephane petite (gen3) MFD has a different UV set from the V3 MFD. That one won't take the textures.
And also consider that pretty much everything that is released as a refit for a later generation is probably something from the PC+ collection, because the PC+ collection does that for popular items. Or at least it used to.
A PA product which has been *reworked* for a later generation is another pair of shoes. Sometimes these take the original textures, and sometimes they don't. Particularly if the reworking has modified the original mesh.
If you just prent the clothing to the figure, with it fitted to the intended figure (parented to G2F, fitted to G8F) then any Hierarchical presets that are made for the G2F version will work. You don't need to do this for ordinary Materials presets, those just need the actual item they apply to selected. When done reparent the items to G8F, and you can delete the G2F.
Thank you Richard and Jodel
Your comments do help.
If anyone has applied any of the textures for G2F outfits (mentioned in postings at the begin of this discussion) to the G3F and/orG8F equivalents I would your appreciate comments and possibly a render
I've attached a render of one material from each of the G2F Sighni texture packs you mentioned on the G8F version of the dress. You get a complaint about the UV set on loading, but the G8F's layout is the same, so they load fine. These are 3DL materials and so would need fine-tuning for Iray, but you can see that they line up correctly.
I don't have all "Wild Winter" set you mentioned for the Winter Fantasy Dress, but I've definitely tested "Frost". The verdict is as above.
As far as I have tested myself, all of these outfits share their texture layouts across generations. (I'm linking so you can see the specific outfits, but I'm only linking to one version for each). Like I said, the rule with these is pretty much that of cross-compatibility, even if the older textures need tweaking to look their best in Iray.

It's possible there are others, but those are the ones that come to mind right now.
Matt. THANK YOU SO MUCH
for taking the time to do that for me (and anyone else wondering the same thing). I will add some of them to my cart.
I have the product from here to convert to Iray from 3DL.
