Reminder: Wearables Are the Devil (when it comes to posing)

So, I've been having a devil of a time trying to pose my characters.

I have a beefy, beefy rig - but DAZ was slowing to a crawl when I was posing figures. What the heck, right? I mean, that's the whole point!

Then I remembered... Wearables are the devil. They slow down posing sooooo much. And it doesn't matter how awesome your CPU is, or how much RAM you have. It's just, like, built into the program.

So if you're pulling your hair out when trying to get the perfect pose, just do it naked. You can make a wearable preset for later.

Funny, I don't have any issues with clothing and performance, it's environments for me. I have gotten into the habit of creating my character, clothing and hair then posing first then saving and then merging them into a scene as opposed to creating them in the scene, especially with some of the insanely demanding environments that have been released as of late.

Really? Odd! For me, it's all wearables.

Once I remove everything from my characters they pose smooth as butter.

Sometimes a wearable will give me issues (usually hair).

So I reduce the subd and turn off smoothing. Sometimes I'll save as a wearable preset and pose naked as you mentioned (or at least pose bald).

  • Just hiding the hair works for me. I would imagine that doing the same thing for clothes would be the same.

Hm. Nope, tried that. Hiding didn't improve the situation. Making the figures base resolution didn't help either. The only thing that worked was stripping them naked!

You may have the "Collide" and "Fit to Shape" numbers and "interactive update" set way too high on your wearables. That's going to be done in the CPU and it's its doing that & you are having your viewport set in iRay preview mode --- another huge hit.

Thanks for that.  I was actually looking for something like this for a different problem.
