Jar Rotation Issues

I would like this jar to turn so that it is cornered on the stand.  The jar loads into DS standing up so when I lay it on its side the y rotation and the z rotation cause it to only spin on its axis. X causes it to stand back up.

    Parent it to a null at 0, 0, 0 and then change the null's transform.

    Yes, this is gimbal lock - using a second node, such as a null, for one of the rotations is the usual solution - though you can experiment with the axis options in the Tool Settings pane..
