Save Support Assets - Scenes

Hi all,

I am running into difficulty with saving all of the props in my small room set I made that has a total of 8 props. After selecting all the props/mesh lights /cameras in my scene tab and then Save As 'Support Asset-> Scene Asset(s)' I notice that the accompanying object directory for all the props doesn't have all the props I selected, usually one is missing. For a while it was only 1 of 2 Iray mesh light props that would not save but now it got worse after a couple of further attempts. The last few attempts only made 1 or 2 props appear in the scene object folder.

I selected all the props while they existed in a parent child hierarchy, should I unparent everything and remove groups so that all scene nodes are parent level props? Everytime I attempt to save the scene as a scene asset, I delete everything in the data folder and the folder that actually contains the scene asset DUF file.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

I think I solved that part last night when I realized that every time I open a new scene I have a default DUF file load up with a couple of mesh lights and cameras and when I removed those and started fresh I was able to save all my scene items into a scene support asset and all the props were saved.

There is one problem that arose though. When I opened my newly saved scene asset file the mesh lights were not applied to the place I set them  in my scene and that is what I am trying to solve now. Any ideas with that?

    Thank you Richard!

  • The mesh lights appeared in a different spot from where I actually placed them in the scene after I opened the new scene support asset duf.

I tested out a theory on this a bit more...

I saved 3 plane primitive iray emissive meshes and 1 sphere primitive emissive in a scene support asset and opened the resulting DUF file. All 4 primitives showed up and in the correct place. Awesome! However when I looked inside the directory where the scene duf was created and looked inside the resulting objects directory, only 1 plane and 1 sphere were contained in there. When I looked inside the resulting data directory only one light plane and the 1 sphere primitive had directories - Is this a bug?

If this is not a bug, does this mean I have to make separate prop support assets if a user wants to merge items in from the prop collection separately?

    Thanks!

  • Just made a funny observation-

I deleted all the files inside the resulting Object folder from when the scene support asset was saved and the newly saved scene support asset file loaded without even needing those objects. I suppose if I want the separate props to be loaded piecemeal then I should save the props as separate prop assets and place them in that Object directory. Wow this has definitely been an exercise...

  • If you save a scene any imported OBJs which haven't beens aaved as assets are embedded in the scene.
