I'm pretty sure he does it a lot faster.
I love that series of tuts - don't forget to add moths...moths make everything more realistic!
What software was he using in that tut?
^Blender
...I believe Stefan uses 3DS Max. Somewhat the same process on large urban sets though he does add in a lot more fine details as well as creates a lot of his own textures and effects like dirt and grime.
heh, that was kinda funny,I like the way he talked about the process :)
and yea, that is more or less exactly how I would start to make an urban building based from photos, different software but same technique
here's a tut from 10 years ago that shows my similar process https://3dtotal.com/tutorials/t/making-of-urban-environment-stefan-morrell-scene-street-urban-environment-road
...Backstreets has always been one of my favourite sets and still holds up well against the test of time.
Here's a rebuild of a very early scene I did though rendered in Iray
might be one of my favourites too,I think it's the first one I did that I felt really proud of....could use an Iray update though.
sadly the buildings I used for the photo reference ended up collapsing during the Christchurch earthquakes
...that's sad. In your model they continue to live on.
Yeah, I had to manually convert all of the textures (made for slightly quicker rendering) The old Floaters came out surprisingly good looking.
Yeah, the moths around the space station are great!
Blender 2.8. Here he goes into more detail on items.
Wow, bookmarking that one.
