Baffled by G2 to G8 Hair Converters

For aeons of yonks I've had the RSSY Hair Converter from Genesis 2 Female to Genesis 8 Female in my Wish List, but each time I see it there I think, "But I'm sure I can already do that!" So I checked what converters I have and I have the RSSY Hair Converter from Genesis 2 Male to Genesis 8 Male; and I then loaded a G8F subset I have, discovered she was already sporting a G2F hairstyle, so deleted that and added a new random G2F hairstyle and it works! I get the conversion window up as usual and it gives me all the conversion alternatives in which there are both G2M & G2F along with all other Genesis possibilities. In fact I've just now tried hairstyles from Genesis 1-3 M & F, plus the G8M on the G8F and all convert to G8F. The same applies to the G8M. The only other hair converter I have is Genesis to G2. But if the RSSY Hair Converter from Genesis 2 Male to Genesis 8 Male works on all Genesis Generations and genders, why is there also a RSSY Hair Converter from Genesis 2 Female to Genesis 8 Female?

To recap in brief, re G8 I only have the RSSY Hair Converter from Genesis 2 Male to Genesis 8 Male, but I can convert all Genesis generations male and female hair to either the G8M and the G8F. How is that possible?

  • You can auto fit most everything. However, it doesn't always do it well, and long hair in particular often has extra bones that are removed when you auto fit. So the converters do a couple main things as far as I understand, they use a process which will keep the extra bones, and it converts and saves in a batch process, so you aren't doing all the conversions manually.

But if the RSSY Hair Converter from Genesis 2 Male to Genesis 8 Male works on all Genesis Generations and genders

What you are using is not the convertor. You are using Autofit. Autofit is sometimes acceptable, but as AlmightyQuest says, it will remove any custom bones/rigging from the hair, which can be a real problem with ponytails and longer hair.

The RSSY convertors are a separate script (which has to be manually run, although it will batch process) that saves a new version of the hair/clothing that retains the original rigging and is tagged in the metadata as for the new generation, therefore meaning no autofit dialogue.

  • I've just checked my Product Library and I also have the Hair Converter from Genesis 3 Female to Genesis 8 Female, which explains that part, but it still doesn't explain why with only the latter and the RSSY Hair Converter from Genesis 2 Male to Genesis 8 Male I convert any hairstyle, M or F, from all of the Genesis and G2 M & F to the G8 M or F. Theoretically I shouldn't able to convert G3M or G2F hair to G8M or F, but I can. Re the autofit I've had no problems with either long or short hair. Everything has worked fine. What also doesn't seem logical is that while I have the RSSY Hair Converter from Genesis 2 Female to Genesis 8 Female in my Wish List, I don't need it as the G2M to G8M is apparently already doing the job.

  • Not sure what more to tell you, other than that based on what you are describing, you are not using the G2 to G8 Male hair converter product with female based models, but are using the built in auto fit instead.
  • Thanks AlmightyQUEST & Matt_Castle. Understood.
