How do I get the "ON/OFF" button in the Parameter tab, instead of the parameter dials

You need to create a Boolean property - that's an option in the Add New Property dialogue.

Is this only possible, when creating a new property, or is there a way to change an existing property into a boolean property?

I can't check just now, but I think the kind is fixed once the property is created.
