my shaders, have been moved.

Most of the shaders that I have used in the past, have always been in my surfaces pane under "presets" but about a month ago, I found that they were missing. I did a seach and I found them, under Shader presets. Is there a way I can get them back into mt surfaces pane/presets once again? I am sure that there is, but I have been unable to find the means to migrate them back. It is a pain to have to go looking for tham when I want to apply a shader, Can someone help me move them back over?

When you're in the surfaces tab with presets open, make sure you have the object in the scene selected and at least one of the surfaces for that object selected. Do they show up then? You can also try removing the checkmark from the box that says Filter By Context to see if it makes them appear.

  • where do I find this "checkmark".  I have some shaders present, but not the ones I normally use.  I just want to move the ones that were there before back over into the preset area.

At the bottom of the category list.

  • okay, I found that, it didn't work.  Still the same shaders in the list,

  • There has to be a way to determine which directory under "shader presets" displays its contents in the preset area.  I just need to know where that setting is, so that I can activate all of my presets instead of just the ones that are currently in the preset area.

The presets tab in the Surfaces pane is Smart Content, so it is dependent on metadata, not any particular folder. If there is some surface selected in the scene, you will get a list of compatible shaders and materials that can be applied. Shader presets are usually set to be compatible with "AnySurface" in their metadata. Aside from the Filter by Context, at the top, you can set the scope to All Files, Default (Categories), or any Custom Categories that you have defined. Not sure why they don't show up anymore. Is the metadata still valid for the shaders?

Shaders will only appear in Presets if you only have one object selected in the Scene pane.

  • I reimported the metadata, and everything works fine now. Thank you for your help!
