women swing hips when we walk.
would be much easiter to animate a walk cycle if the lower abdomen was the root of the bones.
could then swing the hip without swinging the whole body with it.
easier all around without fiddling with ik chains

Why don't you use the pelvis bone instead?
there something dodgy bout the pelvis bone. like ever try making it invisible?
Sadly that would need a whole new figure

if they did do a new figure they could of course make it Carrara compatible too!
hip is fine but as you said the bone influences are a bit odd, honestly a standard biped rig used in multiple software programs with the matching naming conventions would be the best thing they could do so Blender, Max, Maya users and everyone else can easily use the damned thing with existing mocap software and files.
clothes would all need re arranging too
mann what a lot of work to make it walk.
And not skate or waddle
