Belle Dress 3 texture compatibility with Gen 8 version.

Hello All,

I have the Belle Dress for Genesis 8:

I have noticed that there is one for Genesis 3 as well.

rom what I can see on the product descriptions, there are three texture packs for the Genesis 3 version, but none for Genesis 8.

So my question is would the textures for the Genesis 3 version work on the Genesis 8 version?

    AFAIK they should, yes.

    All the PC+ products that upgraded to a later figure retain the UV of the older version, so that you can use all the old texture packs (However they will not show up in Smart Content). This even includes some going way back to generation 3, ie M3 V3 etc, for example the Hooded Cloak.

    There maybe some exceptions to this rule, but they are very rare.

    I know I been away for a while so sorry for the late response.  I come to see that textures for a given item are fixed to that item and it looks like I can't use them in another article of clothing even if it is the same item, but going across figure types.  I am not sure if there is a way to shut the association off so it can be used.  I know shaders dont have this issue and can be virtually used o any surface.  But I have noticed that some patterns have layout and/or tiling issues.

    I'm not sure what problem you have here: is it that when applying a material made for the G3 version to the G8 version it doesn't work properly, or is it that you don't find materials for the G3 version are not associated to the G8 version too in Smart content?

    If I recall correctly (it's been a while since I last used the Belle Dress), I too was having issues applying the texture add-ons to the G8 version. DAZ throws an error when trying to apply materials. My workaround was to load the G3 version in the scene, copy the materials from the Surfaces menu and paste to the G8 version, then delete G3 version, and save as materials preset.

    It's the latter.   If a texture is set to use on a particular dress (for example), you can't use it on another dress or even the same one across a different figure.  Either it just doesn't load up or you get an error message.

    I don’t have this particular dress, but using materials for G3 peasant outfit on the G8 peasant outfit throws up an error, but still applies the texture.

    When you say that can not be used, do you mean that they do not appear in Smart Content?

    That is unfortunately an issue, the textures for a Genesis 3 figure will not appear for the same item made for Genesis 8. To get round that you have to apply the textures via the content library, or untick "Filter By Context" and then find the material presets and click on those.

    Never had a problem with the Peasant Dress between Genesis 2, 3 and 8 Female versions.

    For the Belle Dress, the errors that come up are because of a path error in the material presets from the Genesis 3 version, but you'll get those same errors applying them to the Genesis 3 or 8 version regardless. (Beauty, Cosmic Belle, Garden Party, Mauve Belle have the error; Summer Belle, Wedding Belles do not)

    Error is
    The following files could not be found (note the missing Aave Nainen where the double forward slash is after uv sets):
    data/aave nainen/clothing/belle dress/uv sets//base/default.dsf

    The actual path is:
    data/Aave Nainen/Clothing/Belle Dress/UV Sets/Aave Nainen/Base/default.dsf

    The Genesis 8 version has a different data path, but the mesh is the same, just rigged differently, so luckily (by design, I'm sure) the G3 materials apply.

    Yes. Each version has a different path for the UV data, but they are all the same mesh, so yours uses its own UV. Can't really correct that one without forcing all versions to use the same data file.
