I like my doors to open
in The Commons
I’m a dedicated, one could say (one should say), buyer of buildings. I can’t get enough, I must have ALL the buildings. But So. Many. Are just props. So. Many. I got all excited tonight about the building with the water wheel. Omg, it was so close to me just whacking it in my cart and getting my greedy mitts on it. But I checked first, I’ve been bitten too many times. Just a prop. WAH! So no waterwheel for me. I don’t want a lot, just an opening door, even if THAT’S just a prop, FG and Tesla do that, all props, but the doors are separate AND THEY OPEN. If a vendor is kind enough to give me windows too, I’ll light a candle for them and name my fifth grand-cat after them.

doors and swivel chairs that swivel!!
Riker on next gen had a way of sitting himself down that didn't require a chair to swivel. its not lady like if wearing a skirt, or modest when wearing a kilt.
Check out: Blossom Hill Mill for DAZ Studio over at Rendo. It looks a lot like what you want. There is a waterwheel, doors that open, and even windows.
I sympathize. I've most of Stonemasons items as well as FG's.
I'm sure it's doable in DS but just one of the reasons I export my Daz assets into another program. Generally if a model shows interior views in the promo shots, there'll probably be working doors. Some artists use weight mapping for stuff like spinning props, fans, etc. Othertimes they'll just use pivot points.
I recently re-worked the Collective 3D Long Island Mansion as some doors worked, others were static. Incredibly detailed model BTW.
I am surprised nobody has instanced doors and other bits yet
well a few sets have a bit of instancing
but I mean a whole house made of a handful of modules
TruForm makes buildings, houses, and cars that are a collection of parented props. The doors are set up to open with limits, and he usually rigs the curtains too. I rarely have a problem about Stonemason's static sets because, well, Stonemason. I mean, the story told by his sets don't need a door opening. But anybody else, especially an interior, should have doors.
Sheesh. Next people will be asking for toilets where they can raise the lid!
Spoiled kids these days.
Yeah, doors that open is great, but how about actual rigged doors, that are actually separate items on a VEHICLE? I bought a VW microbus that had at least one door, that was not even rigged... Haven't done a render with it yet, because I can't be bothered to try to set up the door to LOOK like it is properly rigged, and by the time I got around to trying to use it, it was too late to get a refund.
I've completely stopped buying certain vender's buildings because the doors don't open. These sets are nothing but "background" which can be accomplished with stock photos.
Spoiled or soiled, choose whichever you prefer...
I know, right! I just got Amercian living and dining and there are so many flaws. no water out of either sink, the TV doesn't pick up HBO, the hood over the oven doesn't come on, the outlets are 220 volts, which is European and don't even get me started on the useless icemaker in the fridge. what are these PAs thinking, OMG!
Well as I said in the other thread
rooms have doors
its a definition of a room
opening ones a bonus in DAZ land
its the rooms here with no doors even stuck on ones that baffle me
a nice on in dh bathroom.
no working bidets tho
If I put doors in my sets, they're going to open - but it is more work (not just modelling them and the wall thickness but rigging them too - even if it's just a prop door, you need to set the origin in DS so that it pivots around a sensible point). In my upcoming set I've got lots of doors and window-shutters (no glass windows), they're all props and they all open ... but it was a lot of work (in hindsight, I should've gone with a single sized door and instanced it). There's no interior though, and some vendors feel that if there's no interior/exterior, and the doors don't lead anywhere, they don't need to open. I tend to think in terms of user creativity and let the user put something in that space to open to (but you can almost guarantee someone would complain that the door is useless as there's nothing behind it lol).
I can understand that some PAs may, for philosophical reasons not want their doors to open out onto an abyss, but perhaps they could take a moment to mention in their descriptions that the doors, windows, toilets, etc don't open? That way they'll avoid upsetting anyone who considers that functionality a necessity.
yup I love your sets, every prop ,every door, in the sets works & always work on their own accord with their own dials or can be removed, replaced or exchanged. .one of the thing i really like about your sets is how well they work in animation for that reason. like the Kungu fu school you created. that was perfect in my latest animation and i still have more films planned for it :)
click to play
based on what i see on the forums, i highly doubt that would make a difference
Love that animation, great work

I still remember a recent product release where there was this apartment loft/room that was pretty cool, but it had no doors.
Maybe people could climb in through the windows, except that the windows didn't open...
I concluded that people must lower themselves into the room from the ceiling via ropes.
I mainly use daz studio just to export to blender, but rigging a door is usually very easy in any platform and I'd bet you can do it with the geometry editor. Just found this by SickleYeld. Never did it myself.
I've just been checking all my products and I can't find a single room or house which doesn't have openable doors and windows. For me, making doors or windows non-posable isn't even an option. It's just the reality of the way things work.

Generally the doors on my sets open and close on their hinges as well. Mostly.
Some slide sideways, or lift up. Entry and exit doors are story telling and helpful in any kind of narrative.
If they lift the lid they need to make sure they put the seat down.
I know a few men who damned well should sit too instead of whizzing it around all over the bathroom
How about a Toilet, in a Bus Stop that is equipped with doors?
Yup. You even give us drinks and bottles with tilt morphs for the liquids. (Bar Italia has different height levels for beverages as well). I don't remember anyone else that does that. That's why even though my characters don't always drink, when they do, they drink maclean.
LOL. Thank you!! That made me laugh out loud!
Yeah... back in my day we had to just hold it til we exploded and died. :)
Odd. These all work for me and i even get Showtime. Did you buy the Extended License bundle like I did? :)
