    Those are the skeletons used for Claymation. They're pretty neat but imagine how much it would cost to make a huge production with lots of characters. Thank got for CGI

    Stop motion is actually still used. Some of these, though, I didn't realize were stop motion. o_O

    That's right: I'm glad that today we have the mocap!

    Before mocap, animators used rotoscope, using live reference footage as the basis for animated characters. Bakshi's "Lord of the RIngs" used this for all the characters (short actor Billy Barty played Bilbo). Not very different from when we use a photo as a model for creating a character pose.
