Stonemason's "Through the woods" lights

Forgive me if I'm thick but... does the Stonemason's product include any lights? Promo images are beautifuly lit but there are no lights mentioned in the description.

  • It does say it comes with an Iray preset which usually configures some sort of environment setup. I am at work for the next few hours but will test the product when I get home and advise if noone else has chimed in beforehand.

The woods are dark.  They are sets, one Iray and one 3DL.  There are no lights included.  It's a very nice and detailed set, though.

Stonemason often uses the Sun-Sky mode for lighting.

  • So for 3Dlight I need to add lights?

I have problem with rendering in Iray, every render ands up grainy and looks like not finished :(

You're probably not rendering for long enough. By default, the render stops after two hours, however unfinished it might be. If you're CPU rendering, that's often nowhere near enough. Go to the render settings, choose the "Progressive Rendering" section, and set Max Time (secs) to some very large number (or set it to 0 for time to be completely ignored).

That explains a lot! It always seem like rendering slowly to about 50% and suddenly it's finished. I'll try your advice. Thank you soo much :D

You could also try mCasual's Denoiser script, which supposedly works best with incomplete renders.

Another trick is to render at twice the size and then halve it afterwards in photoshop or gimp. That seems to take out a lot of grain..
