using DS 4.11... I installed LAMH but the only thing I see in the menus are something called a strand based hair editor..which i tried ... seems ok after learning it maybe, but simple results bad for me ...
anyway, the question, is that LAMH or something different?

Actually, the SBH editor is based off the Garibaldi hair editor product. LAMH is different and (at least to me and some others I've talked to) harder to work with to get good results.
If you are not seeing the LAMH tab maybe you haven't entered the serial number to activate it? (Unless you are using the Free Player which I think doesn't need to be activated).
i dont see anywhere to activate
i reinstalled manually ... now ok. pretty convoluted registration and activation deal.
I personally find SBH much easier, faster, & less crash prone than LAMH but my results are mediocre (at best), with both SBH & LAMH.
i used to try to do hair in Poser .. not a good thing there either
LAMH is utterly awesome for one thing alone
presets
Alessandro's animals
and a few other such as Vampiric Saiyaness cats and HW3D dog found on DeviantArt
not seen anything close to their skills in any other hair editor
yes iray you need converting via fiber export or catalyzer for AM's critters
but in 3Delight they are stunning
