Zbrush Core 2018 with DAZ products?

I had totally forgotten that I had purchased Zbrush Core until today and wondered if there were any additions to the 2018 update that made it easier (or possible for that matter) to bring in a Genesis 8 figure or other products, morph them, and send them back to Studio.  I know about the issues with mesh resolution differences and such, but if anyone has a simple step-by-step guide or can share a link to a video that might explain it, I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Well, I did the tuts in my sig a LONG time ago but there is still some useful info. I do not know much about ZBrush Core, though. Does GOZ work with it between DAZ and ZBrush?

As far as I know, no, Zbrush Core does not support GoZ. It's much more watered-down than I expected, and I'm starting to think I could probably sculpt in Blender just about as well (with much better import/export options). I just haven't kept up at all with Zbrush -> Studio compatibility for years and wasn't sure if anything changed.

  • Yeah, ZB Core is very rudimentary. You can still create new things and do very complex pieces. A morphing workflow would be hampered with the limited features especially since there are 35 bushes and you can't add any more and GoZ is not supported as you've noted.

Here's a list of what is supported vs what's in the full version: http://zbrushcore.com/features

Fortunately, there are some wonderful sculpting tools being developed in Blender. You just have to always be careful not to use anything that adds or deletes geometry.

Pablo Dobarro was given a grant by Blender to develop sculpting tools and he's doing some great stuff including a cool posing tool.

Do you happen to know if you can export sculpting detail in Blender as a normal or displacement map for use in Studio? I can probably Google it, but there's not that much info out there for doing these sorts of things specifically for DAZ Studio compatibility.

You can still go the export to ZBrush route, though. There is also a list somewhere of the brushes that do and do not add or sbtract geometry. I will see if I can find it. I think I mention them in my tutorial.

  • You should be able to, but you'll likely want to work with MultiRes when sculpting since you can step down the subdivision.

Thanks for the information so far. I'll take a look at that tutorial shortly, just got done getting the settings for exporting to and from Substance Painter right (messy ones, but finally got opacity to work). It's too bad artistic software can't play as nicely with each other as game development software does.
