I working to start developing characters and stuff and I am checking to see if there is a way to have two different Studio set ups on one computer to have one for work flow with only my resources active on and one that I can have for rendering enjoyment? This way I can keep my resources separate and not have to worry about getting something mixed that has license restrictions.

You can have a Beta and a full programme running on the same machine but not two full programmes.
Yes, preferences are separate so you could.
You mean for the “render version” vs the “work in progress version”?
You can have numerous libraries and only have DS see which ones you want it to at any time.
you can but i would not advocate you do unless you know what your doing and accept the responsibility of any damage that may arise from using software in this manner.
I have 6 different versions of daz for various reasons on my system that I can all run at the same time. But unless you have a 100 gig of system ram or more like i have it not very practical to try to run more than one daz at a time. for software stability reasons
The reason i am able to run more than one copy at a time is, as long as daz studio 4 is developed off the daz 4.5 SDK the app date does not change much to break the older versions installed the new updates are added to not replacing older data , so create a new folder name it the olde daz version & move you older version of daz into it, include a copy of plugins folder as well. Then do a new install of the newer version of daz see screen shot
BUT! when I need to be running 2 daz studios at the same time because i am rendering animations on my render rig, I found its much better to use a second pc or my laptop that all have a copy of daz on it and connected to the same content drives, which I use 5 external hard drives plus a 2 TB external dedicated project drive, this way if something your working on crashes the daz software your currently working on it does not take out the daz software project that is rendering at the same time as well
For me this has been the safest solutions for doing what you are looking to do
I don't want to run two at the same time, as much as I want to have a library/program dedicated to character making for sales and one that I can have all of my purchases without having to worry about morphs not usable for my business being availble on my workflow.
That is very easy to do. Just point the one at the directories that you have the merchant resources in and the other at that and the rest of what you own.
If your not planing running 2 daz at same time, there should be no problem with stability at least there hasn't been for me. , the main reason I have multi copies of daz is is simular to what your wanting. mostly because of long running animation projects that use oldr content that does not work on newer versions of daz and i usually will run that 1 older version when i need the that content i can't use in the newer versions like files formats using .daz instead of DUF , particleFX plugin, the animator plugin for poser and daz. and some atmosphere cameras a tons motion files stuff like that is my reasons.
So in theory I could run an older version of Studio instead of a Beta for the character making?
yes , make a folder name it the version of daz you want to save. and copy & paste that daz public build version in that new folder , make sure you include that versions plugin folder as well, then create a short cut on your start menu or desktop to point to that daz version in the new folder . thats preservers thats folders data and now just install the new version into the daz public build folder it will over write thats version in the public build thats why you want to make a copy of that folder with the older versions first.
That is all I ever do. I advise making a system restore point before trying this though, just in case you screw up. because you really do have to know where these files sit in your program directory and each presons system can be different
That is why i said, I would not advocate you do unless you know what your doing when working in programs folders and accept the responsibility of any damage that may arise from doing so
Other wise it can be done yes
You can have two different library set-ups in the same DS and switch between them - set up the sets, and select which will be copied to the Current set, in the Content Dierctory Manager - Edit>Preferences (Daz Studio>Preferences for Mac) and go to the Content tab.
I've three different version of Studio installed (not counting Beta and 32bit version).
But it involves running Linux and using Daz through Wine - Wine prefixes are self contained - they can all share the same runtimes or use diffierent ones.
I'd not recommend it if you are invested in the Windows platform though.
