Medieval Hall and Garden

This set has separate copies of each prop - one iRay, one 3Delight.  I was trying to use the Water Lilies, and found that both copies of the prop were iRay.  I tried filling out a ticket, but have been foiled by the captcha not displaying.  Could someone else who owns this confirm that it is a pervasive problem, and not just a weird DIM error?  I'll try to reload it throught the Connect, but if a moderator could pass the word on?  I know, there isn't many of us 3Delight users about, but, still :-)

Thanks!

I assume we're talking about this one: Medieval Hall and Garden.

I have the set, so I'll take a look for you. Might be a couple of hours before I can get back to you, (RL and all that, ya' know?)

As for the trouble ticket and Captcha: if you're logged in to the store and the forums, clicking on the Contact Us link should automatically log you in to the trouble ticket area. You shouldn't be seeing a Captcha widget at all.

Yup, both copies of the Water Lilies are Iray, but they are the only ones like that. All the other 3DL props have 3DL materials. I checked the full 3DL preload, and those water lilies are all the Iray type, too.

  • I've just checked and can confirm. I use Connect so it is not a DIM problem. All the other 3Delight versions, apart from the lilies, use DAZ Default.

  • Thank you, everyone, for confirming.  I have managed to send a ticket in (turned out my NoScript was in the way!) and I hope for my sake that they can mend it.

  • No problem.

Daz might correct it or they might just say 'but it works OK in 3Delight as it is'.

IRay insists on conversion to Uber shader (so Daz built an auto converter into Studio) but conversion is not always required when using iRay Uber shader with the 3Delight rendering engine.

The lilies only use one map so manual conversion would be quite straight forward.

  • Oh, I can fix it, but I know there are those out there who might not feel so comfortable with the idea, and I would like my set to be complete.  I find that iray mats sometimes drag my render speed, or crash completely, so I just make it good practice to eliminate them wherever possible.  It took me a while to chase down the culprit in my current scene... thought I had made a bonehead mistake and loaded the wrong prop :-)

  • Fair enough.

Yeah, although 3Delight can work with iray materials the performance hit can be massive....

Looks like others were able to test this before I was, but I loaded the scene anyway. I found what all of you found; the water lilies load with Iray materials.

Converting them to 3DL is pretty fast and easy, though.

    1. Select all water lily props in the scene.
    2. Open the Editor in the Surfaces tab.
    3. Select all of the water lilies listed in the Editor.
    4. Open the Content Library tab.
    5. Locate the DS Defaults folder. (Content Library > My Daz 3D Library > Shader Presets > DS Defaults)
    6. Double-click on the dzDefault preset.

If the water lilies are going to be prominent in your image, you may want to tweak the material zones further, otherwise, they should look just fine.

I was wondering what was updated in this product yesterday in DIM. I just checked all the surfaces of the 3Delight water lillies and they are indeed the Daz Studio default surfaces for 3Delight:

  • Yes - now it's fixed for evermore... but I went and bought another product with lilypads, and used those instead... they were a better choice for the image, anyway :-D

I haven't updated and still have different material settings for iRay and 3DL.

Lucky 'cos iRay mats regularly cause DS on this machine to crash so would have to track down my original zip and reload.

The issue was loading the set with the Iray preset loaded 3DL materials for the water lilies. That has been corrected. There is no change, as far as I know, for the 3DL preset and materials.

Ignore me, please. I got it turned around in the old gray matter…! blush

Actually if you reread the first post, the issue was that the 3DL option loaded Iray materials.

… And I tested them, verified it, even showed how to convert to 3DL… I think my organic memory needs an upgrade!
