OT Scary CG creatures in IT Chapter 2

Funny, last night I saw IT Chapter 2 and my friend was freaking out and scared sh**less by all the crazy creatures but I was just imagining them in the computer as 3D assets lol. Later I texted him some promo art from Groovy Patrol, Josh Crocket and JoLab1985 and said this is why it wasn’t scary for me, I see this stuff every day! Actually this looks kind of similar to a scene in the movie, not sure if something similar was in the previous ones. I’m now wondering if the artists above ever did previz for studio movies, they definitely could! For the un-CGI jaded, there were some really creative scary creatures. For me, it was actually funny. As I never saw the previous IT movies, this seemed so over the top and campy with lots of comedy humor especially by Bill Hader who was even funnier at the Q&A after!

One thing i realized not to long ago, adding movement to a model really changes the context for me. I can look at static, 2D images all day long, but when they are animated, it takes them into a whole other dimension IMO.
That Xeno temple takes influence from the movie Alien
Rendering and compositing also make a big difference. Seeing the 3D model by itself is one thing, but if you see it believably juxtaposed with a real setting and human actors, that’s going to change your perception of it.
Yes...”influence”...
Yeah, my friend said the jerky movement added to his fear, but for some reason I just found it funny and campy. For me, it was the music that was scary. The opening, with just the sound scared me, but the creatures had very little effect on me except “eww gross!” The sound was like a character in itself.
Interesting that the Xeno temple was influenced from Alien because there is some similar imagery in IT, but meant to be more associated with some kind of Native American tribe, not aliens...
