The artist without a name and the new Scene Tools
https://www.daz3d.com/daz-studio-4-scene-tools-set-1
This new product looks really useful, but I couldn't help but wonder who exactly made it, since there's no PA name listed on either the catalog page or the read me. (Digging into the file list, it appears to be 3D universe.)
I really like the simplicity and elegance of the toolbar and its functions, and it'll be an instant buy as soon as DAZ fixes the current promotion and actually puts up a list of/link to the free select creatures" that are supposed to be available with today's new releases. However, since this product has a "1" stuck after the name, I'm guessing that there's at least one more set coming. If there is, I hope that there'll be some way to toggle the toolbar with set one, or to display it as a separate pane, as my toolbar area is getting rather crowded....

This has been reported regardin vendor name.
It shows 3d Universe on the video in the product page. Reported to forum mods to contact Daz.
whoah Cris!
you replied before I even finished reporting!
Very nice tool, but I really miss in it possibility to hide / show all items in the hierarchy below the selected item.
For example: I will choose the foot and the tool will hide / show the foot itself and all of its toes.
That's a great idea to add to our tool set, and yes - it is a 3D Universe product :-)
Hmm, I like your stuff, so that makes this product even more interesting. :)
I looked for a commercial thread and didn't see one. I just watched the video for this. It looks handy. The one thing I really need most is the ability to hide the rigid follow nodes like buttons attached to a shirt. Would the Hide Selected Item button also hide all the attached rigid follow nodes? I think I just asked the same question Artini did, but I'm not sure. Thanks.
There's a button in the interface that allows you to hide the artist name ;)
This first set of tools was created in-house for our own use initially. As we add new tools to our own toolset, we'll release any that we feel would be usefull to more than just us.
We already have a few that will make it into another toolset in the not-too-distant future.
If you had the shirt selected, the "Show Only This" button would hide all rigid follow nodes and buttons attached to the shirt leaving only the shirt itself visible. This is ideal when you want to export the shirt to create a morph for example.
Thanks for the reply. That indeed would be useful for exporting the object. What I'm looking for is something that would hide the shirt AND all the buttons in one go. Or more to the point,I was rendering an outfit with a shirt, with RFN buttons, a vest over top of that with RFN buttons, and a jacket, with RFN buttons. I needed to get a render of just the shirt so I had to hide the jacket and track down the 6 buttons, and hide the vest and track down the 5 buttons. And I think that was what Artini was looking for as well. Hide and show the entire hierachy.
Still, what is already included in this first set is worth it anyway. The make all visible in particular, because I never get all of those dang buttons turned back on before the render. Heh.
cheers!
Bought but mostly for the hi to low rez tool buttons for when I'm importing and exporting between ZBrush! I always forget to do that little bit so that will be SO helpful!
Thanks a lot for considering such feature in the future.
Instabuy. I'm always on the lookout for one-click solutions. Thank you for this product!
I recently made a post about geoshell visibility - how it's a pain to turn off the surfaces individually if you, for instance, just want to make stockings. Can set 1 be used for this, and if not, would you pretty please consider adding that option to set 2?
I did note that the voice in the video sounded South African in accent ;). Isn't 3DU from there?
Edit: I really need to learn to read :P Had more mystery the nameless way tho....lol.

Now if it had an option to select everything in the scene and switch off Visible in Simulation, that would be handy. The default is on and it is a PITA switching eveything off and then reselecting only the nodes involved with dForce simulations. However, I do feel that DAZ should change the default to "off" anyway.
All your suggestions for "widget" tools will be considered, so please keep them coming!
I wish I'd had these tools when working on my Discarded image. I love Stonemason's Urban Future 5, but man is that set heavy to navigate around. It would have been handy to be able to focus on the Li'l Patch Girl's pose without having to rotate several city blocks around trying to find a good camera angle. :)
I'd like the ability to toggle the sensitivity of the X/Y and Z translations (maybe the rotations as well). The default for most objects is 1.0, which is fine when moving the object to the desired scene position, but 0.1 is better when tweaking the finally position (eg trying to get things to fit into hands, or putting things on shelves etc). The ability to quickly toggle between 1.0 and 0.1 would be ideal.
+1
Can we select multiple items to show/hide? For instance, select figure and children to hide clothing, hair, etc, rather than hiding the figure and having the clothing, hair and lashes remaining visible and requiring additional steps, as we have it currently.
This may be a silly question, but I'll ask it anyway. Will the button that hides everything other than what is selected work if there is more than one item selected or does it only hide one of the items (like only the last one selected)?
I work round that problem by putting the character (with clothing, lashes, brows etc) into a group. Then you just have to make the group visible or invisible to make the whole lot vanish/appear.
I do that now, too, but I'm asking about this product.
Currently the tool isolates only the single item you have selected. We could update it to work on multiple selected items if there is enough interest in this as a feature.
There sure would be interest. What happens currently if you have multiple items selected?
I suppose these tools are for those who don't understand the Draw Style options already available in DS. Or that you can dramatically increase your preview screen resonse by simply setting None to Best in Preferences if you have a decent GPU.
Actually drawstyle does not effect a scene with a high number of polygons. Drawstyle will downscale textures to speed up scene refresh, but has nothing to do with the number of polygons being displayed in your interface.
These tools lower the number of polygons visible in the scene by hiding specific types of objects, thereby speeding up the interface. It is also easier to focus on the posing of individual items if you can quickly hide other elements in the scene.
I'm not sure I understand you completely here. I have a big problem with viewport response (very slow to pose or move characters around) when any of my characters have fibre hair. Fibre hair seems to slow viewport perfomance to point where it becomes difficult to do any work. I have tried hiding the hair but it makes no difference and the reason the hair is a problem is because of the huge number of polygons (as I understand it). So how will your selective hiding help speed up the viewport?
