dForce MFD?

Anyone know if there is a dForce version of the Morphing Fantasy Dress in the works?

I recall this being asked before, and from what I remember it was stated that  https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-universal-dress-for-genesis-8-females would be sort of be the new MFD going forward, and that it was easier to create a new product than a dForce MFD that is still compatible to the textures of the old MFD.

    Ah...it does look similar.

And I would not be surprised it I was the one who asked before.

Not sure which version of the MFD you have, but it looks like you can add DForce to the Genesis 2 MFD with a Genesis 8 Female and get it to work reasonably well. (Note: The version I have doesn't have the draping sleeves).

Here I grabbed a couple random poses (one which showed the dress extending, and one with interceptions) to test it. Images should be attached to this post.

For the blue dress, I added the DForce Modifier: Dynamic Surface, turned off Self-Collide for the entire outfit, and turned off the Dynamics Strength for Neckline Trim and Cuff Trim in the Surfaces panel. I also turned up the smoothing and collisions modifier a bit.

For the green dress, all I did was add the DForce Modifier: Dynamic Surface and additional smoothing, and then simulate.

Same for the shiny flower-print dress, though the intersections looked a little odd.

  • There seems to be less activity creating textures for commercial garments these days - I don't see the new dress matching the MFD for it's selection of community textures (well, ever).

I've had little trouble using dForce on the MFD - from generation 3*  versions to the latest - bits of the expansion sets work with dForce to varying degrees, but I can see why Daz chose not to try to adapt the MFD to dForce as is.

If you are using a selection of figures from across the generations in a scene - the MFD is still brilliant for keeping the clothes in theme and not looking like an anachronistic mess.

    * Being able to dForce Victoria 3s MFD has given it a new lease, the skirt rigging was limited

At this site, though anything that's a PC+ or a DO packed in a figure bundle seems guaranteed to get at least one add-on texture set.  There's still a ton of texture work going on at Rendo however, including many sets for a lot of the stuff sold here (whereas we rarely see the reverse happen).  That said, I imagine it's a pretty risky investment of time for most PAs, as if the clothing item ends up not selling well, the sales of the texture sets are pretty much D.O.A..

The Rendo market : Yeah, I knew about those, it's usually a small number of PAs who specialise mostly in texture sets (those are little exasperating while shopping, you get attracted by the bright colours, and low price, fail to notice te pre-pended title and waste time appreciating it before noticing it's a texture and you don't have the original garment). I wish they were dilineated better.

I dunno about the risky though - more than occassionally, I've gone out and bought an outfit because of the gorgeous extra texture sets look so much better than the original or added options that gave me ideas.

I was actually thinking, I've not seen texture sets in among the community freebies at all lately.

I've been trying to learn how to texture myself, but every time I sit in front of the machine to do that, my mind goes blank as to what I want to do - I am working on a Star Trek TOS uniform for V3 (for the tunic) at the moment (because that figure lacks one I discovered while doing renders for the DazPoser Wiki lately while having lots of )...

I have every version of MFD and all the attachments. Not sure why though since the last time I did some serious rendering with it was in the V4 days. I also have a bit of an obcession with the morphing fantasy mask.

Thanks for the pointers. I will try them soon.

  • How can dForce be added to non-dForce clothing?

How can dForce be added to non-dForce clothing?

Select the item of clothing, and then right click on the Simulation Tab, dForce->Add dForce Modifier: Dynamic Surface

How well it works will vary a lot depending on the item you are trying to use.

Alternatively, select the clothing, go up to the little "settings" tab (arrow and four lines) at the top of the scenes pane, open that, then go to Edit > Geometry > Add dForce Modifier: Dynamic Surface.

I would suggest making sure you do one piece of dForce clothing at a time if possible, because sometimes they'll clash and explode. Also, I tend to turn off hair and any extraneous jewelry so that those don't get in the way or also cause explosions.

Once it's a satisfactory simulation, you'll want to go into the parameters tab for the piece of clothing, and under the simulation section, selection "Freeze Simulation: On" so that it won't simulate again when you go to simulate something else.

It can be a lot of trial and error.

I've added dForce to MFD several times and it seems to do well with it. I've tried it with the Genesis 1 version, the Genesis 2 version, and here's a render with adding dForce to the Genesis 8 version of MFD (with a freebie MFD texture):

To add dForce to a dress or other item just select the dress in the scene tab and then go to Edit >> Object >> Geometry >> Add dForce Modifier: Dynamic Surface

MFD does well, at least the three versions of the dress I've tried. However I've not tried it with the "add-on" or "Exp" bits for the MFD, so I don't know how well those would dForce. It's likely those pieces for the dress might need some weight mapping added. However the dress itself should dForce just fine. :)

Another tip is to set Bend Stiffness (a dForce surface parameter) to 0.2 for all the clothing's surfaces. That helps anything with a triangular polygon and in general helps many clothing items simmulate successfully..
