Creating Motion Blur

Found this, yesterday and it's helped me to understand something which has puzzled me a lot:

But using that technique with a vehicle, it seems to make the entire model a very smudged blur... Is there a way to solve this, in-render, so to speak, without resorting to doing post-work in Photoshop? I'd like to be able to present a motion blur along the sides/rear of a speeding vehicle, but with the front of it clearly defined and very much in focus.

Normally I would recommend Dreamlight's Motion Master for DAZ Studio --> http://www.daz3d.com/motion-master-for-daz-studio
Unfortunately, I don't think it was ever updated past version 3 of DAZ Studio, so it may not (probably not) work with any version of DS 4.
That all said, I don't know of any other product like it that would work in the latest version of DAZ Studio.
Nope, Motion Master wasn't updated and doesn't work in DS4.
If the tutorial isn't working, then Photoshop would be the next best thing. You may need to combine more than one layer. The motion blur layer with a non blur layer and blend them.
I recommend three png renders: one with the whole scene, one with everything moving removed, and one with everything stationary removed (including any background stuff, since you need your renders' backgrounds transparent) -- that way you can use a motion blur effect on what you want blurred without any bleed from non-blurring things, and you can use the whole-scene render (blurred as appropriate) to repair any shadows. I used that technique here, here (the toy zipping across the floor), and here (although the wheel got its own render for a radial motion blur).
It is, I believe, working with layers the percentage of opacity and transparency in Photoshop, you can get what you want.
The ideal is to do some tests, especially transparencies

@KickAir 8P - some cool works there!
Shame it sounds like there isn't a way to do this from within the render settings, but thanks for the tips, everyone. That picture of the toy speeding along floor was essentially the look I was going for, as it happens. :)
Great, happy to help!
I often use a combination of both rendered blur and postwork depending on what I'm using it on... but yes, using layers in post is the quickest way to do it and more versatile if you change your mind about what to blur and what to keep sharp.
Nice renders Beth, very nice indeed. I too really like the ball rolling across the floor. :coolsmile:
Thanks!
