Character X for Base Y questions

So, I've bought a couple of characters that are intended for a certain base, which I don't have.   For example Aakash HD for Kala 8.  Now I don't have Kaia, but I bought the character and when I load the character she looks just fine.

What am I missing out on by not having Kaia?

Are there problems I will run into?

Should I feel free to ignore special base character requirements?

Is all this already explained in detail somewhere?

  • In general when a character is made that includes a specific shape, the morph is set up so the master control dials:   the various other morphs + the specified one

Now if the maker used 25% or less or its a very 'mild' shape, you may see virtually no visible differrence.

But if you buy a character that say uses  a more extreme shape like Mabel or Mrs Chow, you will definitly see a differrence if that ingredient is missing

You will see requests for ' Can somebody render character X without the base" fairly often. Siometimes the vendor includes those in the promos, or shows it mixed with other base shapes.

so yeah you can ignore the requirements, but just like when you subsitute or leave out an ingredient from a  recipe ... soimetimes it all falls apart ;)

    your mileage will vary

This is a fairly common question. Your character "looks fine" because she will be based on Genesis 8 female if the Kala morphs aren't present. She will not however look like the promos.

No one but you can decide if you should ignore the requirements. However, you will eventually have a character that looks fairly different from the  promos (i.e. presumably the reason you were interested).

So anyway, here's a quickish render, in case anyone's curious about my devil-may-care flouting of base characters.   Aakash looks pretty similar to the promos here, but the puffiness under her eyes looks more pronounced.  It could just be the lighting, but in any case, I'd consider that a happy accident, since it adds to her character.
