Genesis, V5, and M5?

edited December 1969 in New Users

Hi there. Total newbie question. I know that the Gen2 and v6 models are all equivalent, yes? So does that mean the v5 models are all the same as original Genesis?

Umm... Genesis is genesis, V5 is a Genesis shape made from genesis. And G2 is G2 with V6 a shape for G2. They are not the same any more than V4 and A4 are the same.

Hi there. Total newbie question. I know that the Gen2 and v6 models are all equivalent, yes? So does that mean the v5 models are all the same as original Genesis?

There are base figures and characters that are morphs of the base figure.

In generation 4, Victoria 4 and Michael 4 were base characters. Other generator 4 characters like Aliko 4 Stephanie 4 or The Girl 4 were morphs of Victoria 4.

In generation 5, Genesis is the base figure for both male and female characters. Victoria 5 and Michael 5 are both morphs of Genesis. Other characters like Stephanie 5 or Aiko 5 are also morphs of Genesis and do not require Victoria 5.

In generation 6, the Genesis 2 Female and Genesis 2 Male are the base figures. Victoria 6 is a morph of Genesis 2 Female. Other female characters like Olympia 6 are also morphs of Genesis 2 Female.

One of the innovations in Genesis technology is the support of multiple UV sets. A UV set controls how the 2D skin map is mapped onto the 3D model. The Genesis 1 figure comes supporting Genesis UVs and Victoria 4 UVs, so you can use Victoria 4 skins on Genesis as well. Any of the Genesis characters you find in the store which are for both V4 and Genesis are using V4 UVs on Genesis.

Most of the other Gen5 characters (V5, M5, Stephanie 5, ect) come with their own custom UVs which you get when you buy the character. These custom UVs presumably give better fit of the skin onto to the character's body shape with less stretching or compression of the skin. If a character in the store says it requires Victoria 5, this probably means the skin uses the V5 UVs and/or the body shape uses the V5 morph. Unfortunately, the store listings don't tell you.

Genesis 2 Female supports V5 UVs out of the box, but the skin presets still need to be translated to DUF format in some cases. The product Victoria 4 for Genesis 2 Female adds V4 UV support for G2F. Almost no V4 skin presets are in DUF format so they first have to be translated by loading them on Victoria 4 or Genesis and saving them as a material preset. The product V4 Skins Auto Converter for Genesis 2 Female(s) can help automate this process, but I have converted a number of skins without it.
