Arissa Dress

I bought this item way back when I was still using Poser but never used it. So despite being for V4 and is a bit dated can it be made into a dForce item? If so how?

You could give it a whirl, not sure if the geometry will work well with it. To add the modifier select the item, edit menu > object > geometry > add dforce modifier:dynamic surface

If the dress isn't welded it will drop to pieces on the floor. That can be avoided using a wightmap.

Poser dynamics are usually modelled correctly to take dforce without exploding or falling apart. Pose the Genesis figure of your choice as close to the V4 default pose as you can on frame 1 of your animated timeline. You may need to bend the elbows slightly or dial the arms longer with whatever morph dials you have for that. The net effect should be that the Genesis character is posed inside the dress. Set up a plane primitive with a fair number of divisions (I want to say like 50-100) underneath your figure, and set up your final pose on frame 30 of your animated timeline. Select all surfaces of the dress/drapey things, with the possible exception of the bracelet bits, making sure that your character is not selected at this point. Go to Edit->Geometry->Add Dforce (I forget the exact command name, but I think it's the bottom and most generic of the 3 or so dforce options you are given). Your Poser dynamic is now dforce. Go to the Simulation tab, turn off "Memorized pose" and turn on "animated simulation, whole timeline". Run simulation.

I don't think you can apply dforce to only certain surfaces of a garment though - you may need to select the bracelet bits and take Dynamic strength down to (probably nothing).

Plus - You might want to adjust some of the dForce related fields in the Surfaces tab

Dynamic Strength - default 100 - reduce it for garment surfaces you want less on (e.g. a bodice with a loose neck to (try to) prevent it slipping off the shoulder.

Bend Stiffness  - default is 50 - but 28-40 will sometimes help cut down on explosions - by the look of the arrisa dress, you'll want 28, as it's filmy.

Density (GSM) - default 180 - According to Robs rundown, higher values affect a thicker cloth drape effect.

I've gotten a fair few poser dynamic clothing items to drape quite well in dForce, but I've struggled with the bracelettly bits on winged garments like this, I've found the success rate a lot lower than simpler garments.

It's mostly going to be playing with values and experimenting though.

If you get it right, save the garment (subscene will do) and load it in future.
