What's the general Price Range of custom content commissions?
So I have a particular niche that's apparantly unpopular for Daz atm (World War II/ 30s/40s noir stuff, ect) and since I know jack about this, I wanted to ask a hypotherical of hiring someone.
Let's say I was in the market for a decent and usable World War II US Fighter Pilot outfit. It doesn't need crazy detailed textures or such, maybe the minimum of fitting morphs for (lets say Gen 8 male). How much would that generally go?
I'm guessing it depends on the artist I go to, what they charge, ect. But I wanted to get a decent idea of what kind of dosh I'd be sinking in to get my niche needs filled for Daz content, along with other things like 'do they usually do discounts if you let them sell it on the store, and so on.'
Just wondering what I'm getting into if I go this route for content I cannot get anywhere else.

I'm not PA so I can't answer your question in the end but I can give you an idea.
Think about the time a PA invests in modelling, textureing, creating poses and testing everything, onece it get accepted and goes for sale, they can expect that it will be bought by a certain number of people. The income they have from that will need to pay their bills for an equal amount of time they put into the creation.
If onyl one person buys it, as a comission, the price will have to be accordingly high.
I don't know what exactly you are looking for but if you put out a list of the things you need maybe people from the forums can point you to some models they know about. Some might need some modification or a different texture but that would give you some options.
https://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/ww2-usaaf-pilot-pack/66521 Well I got this over on Rendo, only to not pay attention and realize it wasn't Daz-friendly.
Its everything I need but I can't get it to appear. I tried applying it through the usual Rendo install, doesn't appear in my content library, I tried importing the items from the folder into Daz, but there's no 'fit' option available.
If there's a trick I'm missing to getting this to work I'd greatly appreciate the help. It was made for Poser, and for a custom figure named Apollo Maximus if that helps.
Did you get the figure as well? There's a thread here: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/19765/apollo-maximus-is-back-the-optimal-3d-figure-working-download/p1 with some information, the google drive link still works as well, to download it.
well it states "Poser 5 or later or Daz studio/ Apollo Maximus" so it should be applicable in Daz. It requires this figure Apollo Maximus
which seems to be a freebie, more info on that one here https://poserdazfreebies.miraheze.org/wiki/Apollo_Maximus
But it seems a bit of an aged figure so there won't be an easy fit for the newer generations. There are some specialists in the forum who manage to fiddle old stuff on new figures, so it's probalbly possible but has work on the road for you ( but way cheaper than getting it deisgned new :D)
There were filed in the folder to move into the DAZ library? You can try looking into the Poser formats or Products list in the content library to see if they are there at all
Though generally, if there are problems with Rendo products, Rendo should be the place to adress, I guess.
That outfit you got from Rendo looks a lot like this one for G2M. It would probably not be very hard to convert it to fit a G8M.
How WW2 period accurate does it have to be? This is just a suggestion, but there's an aviator outfit for G8M already in the daz store: https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-retro-aviator-outfit-for-genesis-8-males
Obviously it also lacks the accessories of the one from rendo. But you could try autofit (or other cross-figure method) to transfer harnesses and helmets from G8F if you cant find any for G8M.
True, that could work with a bit of tweaking, I know I've seen goggles on a different wardrobe that would look good with it. Now if only I could find a breathing mask similar to the Rendo one. Trying not to be a stickler for accuracy but can't help it. lol thanks for the find.
Is there a route between Apollo Maximus and ANY Genesis figure? I don't know that anyone has officially bothered with that.
The least expensive might be to buy that G2M outfit that TigerAnne spotted, and parent anything you can from the Apollo Maximus outfit that will work in Daz (if at all).
dForce, with as much rigidity as you can manage for Surfaces that shouldn't bend, might help after manual posing the items you want to bend.
Probably so, I'll poke over there for any fixes. And thanks. I'll dl the figure and see if that helps with converting it. Might need a hand-holding level guide to converting it though, lol did look through the poser folder, didn't appear there either.
I was just going to post the same link that Drip posted above. From the last link, scroll down to just above the table with yellow cells and the password for the zip files is there.
I found Apollo in my old Poser runtime and successfully loaded him into Daz Studio. Just be aware that he loads up very anatomically correct, but you can turn off the visibility of those parts in the scene tab of Daz Studio. Since the figure is free, it might be worth a download to see if it is suitable once covered by the flightsuit.
One could probably create an autofit clone, but I don't know of any available
Not terribly 100% accurate honestly. Really assuming the Gen 2 version that was linked doesn't have a boatload of fitting and shaping problems when I parent it to a Gen 8 dude (sometimes Gen 2 and older don't play nice in the fitting dept) it's perfect, if not I can make do with the Gen 8 one. Thanks! Just need to find a similar breathing mask in another wardrobe pack assuming I can't find a way to autofit/parent the Poser one's objects. Same for the harness but really the harness isn't a dealbreaker for me.
There is this mask/harness for G8M, but im not sure how useable the helmet would be: https://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/dieselpunk---space-racer-pilot-g3-g8-m-for-ds/124223/
Why not just use it on Apollo? He was a masterful figure.
Updating Apollo's materials to look passable in Iray wouldn't be super time consuming for someone who knows what they're doing.
Updating the existing textures or making new PBR textures would also be less time consuming (read expensive) than rigging or modeling a new outfit.
But yeah, I can't speak for everyone, but I would guess that a custom brand new outfit by a Daz PA would likely run you at least a couple thousand dollars.
Another route, although kind of complicated, would be to use Evilinnocence's "Crossdresser XD" product to convert fit from Apollo Maximus to M4, then use one of the various available utilities to go from M4 to G8. Have not had a chance to try this myself yet.
You might want to contact Cybertenko over at Renderosity. He's already done a number of WWII period aircraft and period military uniforms, so it seems like something he might already be contemplating as a future product. That would probably be for M4, but that's an easy fit to the Genesis line.
Or... depending on the pose, you could just parent the Apollo Maximus set to a genesis figure, manually pose the outfit to match your character's pose, and then hide the parts of the Genesis figure that poke through. Quite often that's both faster and looks better than trying to cross fit an item that's really complicated.
You might also consider kitbashing. Find the parts of other clothings sets that fit your need, then only commission the pieces you can't find anywhere else like the mask.
Had you seen these two?

Yes, I have these two. Sadly it appears they did not sell well, so the PA has no incentive or interest in making similar content like WWII Pilots or NavalMen. :(
another from Rendo for M4 - flight suit - may be useful for you
Also there are a few hobby artists who do take commissions, on ShareCG and DeviantArt for example, that won't cost as much as a professional DAZ PA. Some do great work, make lovely freebies too. If you don't need perfect quality and are more interested in correct shapes it might be worth looking into.
Your average audience isn't going to know jack about that stuff either & if you are choosing this niche to sell WWII stories to WWII buffs then you'd better educate yourself in earnest about your chosen niche.
Is it worth your time? Well, after all Hollywood and various publishing businesses are still making a mint off of WWII so it's not like it's a small unprofitable niche but one that could earn you a lot of money. However, you have a lot of work to do to make it believable to your WWII buff audience. Hobbyists can and do spend a substantial amount of money on their chosen hobby.
Otherwise, maybe you should try to make an 'alterna-WWII reality' your niche and forget about all the other stuff. Then you can use products like Ollie 8's retro aviator outfit and not have the WWII buffs call you on it. After all, how much money has Wolfenstein 3D and all of it's still continuing sequels made?
