Faveral Kitchen Props - Require MICK?

OVDOVD Posts: 262

I was looking at Faveral's kitchen pack and it says it requires MICK, but all I really want are the food props. Can anyone tell me if they require MICK as well? Or can I buy it sans-MICK and just use the props as they are?

Thanks!

    The "what's included" says:

    • Medieval Kitchen (Iray Preload Scene)
    • 97 Complementary Props

So apparently it's just a scene and it comes with 97 props loaded in the scene (at least that's what it sounds like from the description and the "what's included). So if you didn't own the MICK (Medieval Interior Construction Kit) it will likely just load a scene with props but not the room. From the desciption, it doesn't sound like you'd be able to load any of the props separately - but maybe someone who has it can tell us? :) If you really just want the props but not the other MICK product you could probably purchase it and then perhaps save each of the props as separate Scene Subsets for easy load later, if it doesn't come with the option to load them separately.

*Edit: GlenWebb says he has it and that the props load separately - awesome! Sounds like a great product! And it sounds like you can use it without the Medieval Interior Construction Kit if you don't have it. :D Great to know - Thank you, Glen!

The props load seperately. I use them all the time with and without MICK.

EDIT: I wanted to add, in the Content Directory, they are listed as separate props. I don't use Smart Content so I cannot comment on that.

The MICK (Medieval Interior Construction Kit) is just all the walls, doors, ceilings etc that are needed to load the full kitchen, ie the room, not the contents. If you do not own it, then the presets to load the entire kitchen will not work. However the 97 props are already separated out as individual objects that can be loaded without MICK, they do not only load together with the environment, and can be loaded one by one using either smart content, or the content library. Look at the readme "http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/40393/start" and you will see all the props are separate dufs.

So no, you do not need it if you just need the small props, only if you need the room.

The 97 (I have 98) props can all be loaded individually. There is one preset that loads them all into the room, which would probably still load them up where they would go in the Kitchen, with a lot of clicking through error messages complaining of missing parts.

Thank you, Glen! Sounds like a really cool product with or without the MICK. :) I've added it to my wishlist as well, since it sounds like the props can be used in other scenes.

@OdinVonD, I would like to mention these props are relatively low poly, and the materials are also of lower resolutions. They work very well for situations where they are not close to the camera. I learned this when using them for a render where the food was close to the camera. I had to do some juggling of what went where, and add SubD to the closest objects. I also increased the tiling on the chicken. (Thank you, Faveral, for using a seamless tile on those!)

I think it's a great set of props, as long as you remember they were never intended to be use for macro work.

(If you're curious about the image I referred to, I've posted it along with some info about what I did to create the image in my Art Studio page here.)
