Character Converter Question(s) - MOVED TO COMMERCIAL THREAD

Sorry if this is something I'm not understanding, but the program says it works with figures based off the off the basic G3F UV set, and those that aren't will have ugly seams.  I have several G3F characters (from pro bundles, etc) that are based on their own Custom UV's.  So does that mean all those will have ugly seams and/or misaligned features?  Then it shows Aiko7 materials used on Aiko8 and says in this case, other materials should be used as there are problems with the eyes, lips and neck. I assume this is because Aiko 7 has Custom UV's that don't transfer correctly to A8? What other materials should be used then?

And does it only copy 'materials'? He shows using a V7 figure but says V8 eyes are used. Why?

Not sure quite how the morph transfer thing works either, or does it actually not transfer all G3F morphs to G8F? Reads like it will only transfer only the morphs currently in use from G3F to G8F.

Also the whole box where you have to manually add vendor/product name/character name one at a time seems time consuming. Guess it is what it is, but still.

I'm too confused to buy it, and I know I can return it before 30 days, but I just don't know.

I have a question too... Does it just create the full character or does it create sliders and separate head/body morphs?  And does it take G8 expressions correctly?

These questions might be better asked in the commercial thread where there is a better chance of the product's creator seeing them: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/340346/released-character-converter-from-genesis-3-female-to-genesis-8-female-commercial#latest

I'm not sure how the UV transfer can be worked around because so far I haven't run into any characters with those issues, but I can clarify a little on the way the tool works in practice.

If I understand your question correctly, it doesn't transfer collections of morphs from G3F to G8F--just characters. However, you could create a custom character using a morph set like this and transfer that character to G8F. It transfers the full character, but also creates a slider under parameters so you can blend it with other G8F characters and morphs. As far as I've seen G8F expressions work fine, and I haven't had any issues with posing in general.

It also takes a while to transfer a single character (a few minutes for me, but I've heard other people say it took much longer), so batch conversion might be a little dicey.

I'm still at work, but I can poke around for more specific answers when I get home. It really is an incredible tool in my opinion, and not very complicated to use. I'm super impressed with it!

     There are two possible fixes.

    1) Purchase the product in the store that adds the custom UVs from the Gen 7 DOs to G8F.
    2) Bake the textures onto the base UVs using the Map Transfer tool in the Surfaces Tab. It's more effort, but it has the benefit that it will mean the texture will then work with overlays intended for the Base UVs (e.g. Skin Builder, other LIE presets, etc).

And does it only copy 'materials'? He shows using a V7 figure but says V8 eyes are used. Why?

Although the base UVs otherwise have entirely interchangeable texture layouts, G3 and G8 have slightly different eye UVs, so the usual fix is to pick a similar set of G8F eyes.

Thanks Divamakeup. Will move my question to the other thread. Didn't see a commercial thread...probably missed it.

Thanks Matt...I don't have the Aiko7 to Aiko8 product if that's what you're referring to. I don't use Aiko much, but would use her more if this would work.  I'll have to read about baking things. I've heard it mentioned in threads off and on, but don't have a clue about how to do it. So will have to find that info and get busy.
Ok, didn't know about the different eye UV's. So that's what tripped me up there. Explains that question. Duh....

    Specifically, this: https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-character-uvs-for-genesis-8-female

However, no offence to the artist involved, it's probably not hugely worth it as a product. Baking the textures permanently (which you can do on a G3F figure with no need for that product, as the G3F will already have access to both UV sets) is more time consuming and technically has a teensy quality loss, but having the textures on the same Base UV means that they then become compatible with all other overlays and the like.

That's not to say that there aren't other cases where UV products are very useful, but I would only normally recommend them if they unlocked whole swathes of skins (for example, the cross-gender ones have their uses).

I own that product and did't remember I did (too much content you forget about it), That appears to make more sense to me and it's easier. I don't need the batch conversion anyway. I'd probably only convert the one I needed  at the time. I don't have to have a slew of them at once. Wow. Eye opener. Thanks Matt.
