Ok

What I mean is...I've been looking into morphs for Dawn (and V4 & M4, ect), and it's a hit or miss if they're for Daz or not

So, I was wondering if there was an easy way to get those Poser-only morphs working in Daz

If they're pz2 files for V4 or M4, they'll work in Daz Studio "as is". You'll just have to look for them in Poser Content instead of Smart Content.

Can't help with Dawn; I don't use her, so I don't know how she's morphed.

    Well, Dawn has 2 figures

    1 is like how V4 & M4 is
the 2nd is lie how Daz's Genesis is, where it's in the Data folder

So, I pretty much wanted to figure out how that Poser format morph can be turned into a morph that's used like the Genesis morphs (just for dawn)

The Poser version of Dawn uses Poser 9 weight-mapping, which won't work in DS. DS only recognizes legacy Poser parametric rigging.

so...what are my work aronds to get morphs that are just Poser-only for Dawn over to work in Daz?

If you check over at Hivewire you will find a "rough" tutorial by me on how to convert Poser INJ/PMD morphs to TriAx figures, I'd post a link but that's against the DAZ TOS.

The problem is that you can't INJect into a TriAx figure, the only way to get morphs into one is through MorphLoader, GoZ, or the Hex bridge, as an empty channel isn't actually empty, it's a DSF asset file and those are locked.

You also have the problem of the PMD, we can only get one of those to load into DS4 by calling it in a CR2, and with an INJectable PMD you need to add the correct channels into the CR2.

Dawn has two versions: the DS version and the Poser version. You get both versions with the free Dawn base. If you purchased the original starter bundle, you have both the DS and Poser versions of the Starter morphs. Some vendors include both the DS and Poser versions of their morphs with products. 3D Universe did this with his Alexis morph. Others sell DS and Poser versions separately. Those that have both versions will often sell them in a bundle which is cheaper if you intend to use them in both apps.

Some vendors only make morphs for one app or another. Dawn's boyfriend is DS only. Most of Mec4D's early Dawn products were DS only (I haven't looked at here site recently to know if she has added Poser versions). Thorne's MR face kit for Dawn is Poser only.

About the only thing I can suggest is contact the vendor. There may be a DS version in the works or the vendor is waiting to know if there is sufficient interest.

i was trying to figure out how to get those pmd morphs into DS, too.

one ideas was to load the morph in poser, export obj as a morph target. supposedly in DS pro, we can use the obj to import a new morph.

or load the morphs in poser, save the figure as a .cr2, then use the D3D utility to create morph injs. (turning off poser's external binary option)

not sure about Dawn, but V4 has those lovely community channels to load a custom morph. :)

i guess the strategy would depend if you're making morphs to distribute, or is for personal only. in which case, injecting morphs with poser and then save the updated figure's cr2 in poser and then use that in DS. Iz how I made Olivia work in DS with all her pmds injected.

I posted this pic over at HiveWire when TrekkieGrrrl first released her Big Bertha morph for Dawn, her version is an injection PMD, the version in the picture is a single DSF morph asset file.

The biggest problem with going from one to the other is how the two systems work, the mesh in a TriAx figure is a single entity, you don't even need mesh groups if you dont want them, as a result all morphs are technically a full body morph. Poser figures however are basically a collection of props held together with the bone welds, with each prop having it's own part of a morphs deltas.

This makes getting all of those partial morphs into an FBM you can use with the TriAx version a pita, especially if all you have to work with is DS.

That's why I created that tutorial, it's so people can learn how to create a dummy CR2, one that will not only load Dawn's own CR2, but also load the PMD, as well as create the required channels for the PMD to work, once the morphs are in DS you can start exporting your own OBJ for them, and then use MorphLoader to get them into the TriAx version.

    what tutorial???
Head over to the HiveWire3d forums and look in the "HiveWire 3D Wisdom" sub forum, in there you will find a thread by me called "PMD to DS".
