Thumbnail creation script

Hi,

I do have Dragonstorms Thumbnail Mastery but it seems a bit convoluted to me.  I need something simple like point the script to a folder, set the size of the thumbnails needed and have it generate the thumbnails from the figures in the scene.

Of course it would have to be a script that generates for the current figures, so .dul.png would have to be part of the naming convention.  I have an older script but duf isn't even mentioned so it's OLD! LOL

If Miss Storms is the way to go is there a tutorial on how to set it up correctly?  I have no need for backgrounds or anything fancy but want the thumbnails generated at 182X182 and use the names I've already given the main pose files.  Her script is asking for a new name < File name of Filename Image(s) > or perhaps that means something else, I just don't have any documentation to go on.  I even downloaded the zip from my account and there is no documentation or PDF included as to how to use the script to I'm sort of lost here....

Thanks so much

Richard

IrfanView will do all that and more on whole batches of files.

The Thumbnail Mastery readme page online has a link to a PDF.

I don't think Irfanview can read DUF files to create the Thumbnails though!

Thank you barbult.  I'll download and save that out and try to get a handle on this!

Thumbnail Mastery has some optional things that may make it look more convulted than it is. Just rename the item that will have the presets applied to (search the name in the instructions, I forgot) and save the scene. remember to set the amount of seconds it will render. In TM ignore the first options (those are for custom naming and saving) and go to the three aquares in the middle. Select the scene, the presets and the size (most commonly, the 256 TIP and 91 PNG. Thats it. It will create the tip and thumbs in the presets location and DAZ Studio ready.

But what if I like the names of the poses I've created? From what I'm gathering here I have to rename all the poses or am I not understanding what your saying?

OK, got it figured out but there is one issue, the thumbnails are not being saved with the .duf bit before the png file type. Isn't there an issue with the thumbnails not showing properly in DS without that extra bit in the naming of each TN?

No, commercial products do not  use the .duf before the .png on thumbnails. There is no problem with leaving that off.

I use TM and it's pretty fantastic. I use a simple gradient background blend with it, that's all. Once I got the hang of making a preset file with lighting and camera the way I wanted it, it was easy. Just set up a thumbs scene...IE....load your base character or object, rename it to "DSThumbnailFocus" (I think that's it) and save the scene with your lighting and camera angle. Then you can point it toward the set of files you want.

That really only takes 3 steps. Lanch the script and then....

Click the first button for Select Base Scene (the scene you saved, with the lighting & camera angle). Then skip path & filename sections and just go to the middle box to Select Presets for Thumbnails and point it toward your list of poses or object settings. It will auto fill the boxes on either side for you. On the thumbnail size I usually choose the 256 & 91 option so it makes the small and large for tips. Then go to the next section and select your background (if you want) and hit create. Done! I don't mess with much else than that and it goes lickety split. Definitely set the number of seconds, like Hellboy said.

One of the best tools I've picked up in a while...I get all excited when it starts magically doing my work for me! Maybe I need to get out more..LOL.

    OK, misunderstood the question blush

Got them done but had to redo quite a few as some of the poses are meant to be viewed from an angle and the straight on camera shots were not giving any visual feedback showing off the poses.  It's OK.... those are done too. Thanks for all the tips folks!

OK, another question... is there a way to do a batch rename without actually renaming a thumbnail?  I have the .tip's I needed to redo redone but now want to reduce them to replace the ones generated by the script but without the .tip.  There are 42 of them so I'd like a fast easy way to simply remove the .tip from the name.

I use Bulk Rename Utility (BRU) for things like that. Here is a link, it it doesn't get modded out. It is free for personal use, but not free for commercial use. Sounds like you are looking at commercial use, maybe.

#barbult It worked very very well.  This will be a "go-to" program for renaming things very fast.  I like that it's got a column that shows you what the renamed will look like.  Totally fast and accurate.

I'm glad BRU is working well for you. yes
