Please, DAZ... TELL US WHEN SALES END!

KaribouKaribou Posts: 1,325

Literally, between the click that took me to my shopping cart and the click that took me to selecting my payment method, the 4-hour flash sales ended, adding about $150 to my total and (obviously) prompting me to back up and dump all the items. I guess I should be thanking DAZ for saving me money on content I really don't need, but it's so incredibly frustrating when a "4 hours only!" sale ends and you have no idea what time it started, ESPECIALLY when the banner ad is still on the main shopping page. This irritates me to no end. Had I KNOWN the items were going off sale so fast, I might have clicked a little faster!!

It’s worse if it goes through and PayPal shows the sale price but your confirmation email and subsequent bank deduction the full price.

    I screenshot everything now

Omg, my head would explode if that happened, lol!

This kind of absolute nonsense is why I pay for almost everything via gift cards now. If I click on a button that says I'm authorising a certain amount, then any bug or discrepancy should abort the transaction, not suddenly be taken as permission to take whatever bugged-out price tag the store feels like.
Using gift cards means that if any discount recalculates, the damage is limited to the value of the credit in my Daz account, and can't take large amounts out of my bank account, potentially resulting in painful fees.

Given it's far from unknown for discounts to hit 80%, 90% or more during things like PC+ sales or with the right stacking offers, potentially making any such discrepancy to the tune of thousands of dollars, it's really not acceptable for the system to have these bugs.

I got hit with an overcharge and have to deal with the incompetence of my bank in handling the matter. They have a call center outsourced somewhere in Asia. I was transferred from one department to another (fraud, merchant resolution, etc). While being dealt with, my Daz account was temporarily locked. All because of... (don't let me get into tirade)..just GRRRR...

  • They should, but they won't.  Uncertainly is central to the customer psychology of the marketing playbook they follow.  Keep us guessing, make us panic that we might miss the discount, so we don't stop and think long enough to decide to pass.

I disagree.  If there is a sale going on at "that other content site" (where they helpfully post a countdown timer for sale items), I can budget "real life" expenses around the sale date. (Like, "I can skip Starbuck's tomorrow and get that lights set instead.") And it's not like we don't know that "flash" sales go fast (make up your mind fast or you miss it) and that pretty much all other sales tick past at midnight DAZ time according to the order of the sale banners on the store website.  I can say with absolute certainty that DAZ has lost money from me as a result of their unposted end-of-sale times. If an item falls off the sale while in my cart, I'm going to remember how much I could have saved, if only I'd known I should postpone answering my phone or having a 3-minute conversation until AFTER I clicked through the payment method screen and I won't be buying it again until it hits that price point.

If you're on Windows you can try this one, it will pop up and tell you as soon as there are new sales banners:

Uncertainty makes me just buy less, not more, as I need time to think about if I can manage to get the funds for something I want to buy - and most often if I really want to buy anything at all. For me it's "if the sale ends before I can decide what I want and if I can pay for it, then DAZ showed me they don't want my money... and I didn't needed anything anyway at all..."

With a proper timer DAZ would probably make more money from me.

You could let Daz know your feelings instead of posting in peer to peer forums.    Use the Contact Us button.

Yep. Thats how I deal with this nonsense.

Something like this (except even dumber) happened to me.

The sale occured across multiple days and I made my purchase within about 20 minutes of one day ending and the next day starting (in Daz Time).

The price indicated on cart showed the sale price and even the frekking popup window for the PayPal (this seriously confuses me, how is this even possible???), but the price charged was the non-sale price.

This was all despite the fact that the sale was continuing for the next day.

Anyway, I contacted Daz and they gave me store credit, but this sort of thing should not be occurring.

    on topic:

I really wish they had a count down or something for flash sales.

Had to empty my cart a number of times and it just annoys me, I feel like it would negatively impact Daz Sales in the long run.

I did exactly that, and I still haven't heard back from them. I dumped a cart full of products I really wanted because I loaded it up, left the room for literally five minutes to feed the cats, and when I got back and clicked the checkout button, everything was full price again. I skipped buying so much stuff because they couldn't bother to tell me when the sale would end so that I would know to just go ahead and buy it rather than wait  a couple minutes.

DAZ's policy of not posting when sales start and end, being inconsistent with how long items are on sale (e.g. Fast Grabs lasting for one day or several days, who knows, time to spin that wheel), listing things as being on sale but the prices not registering as such, etc. is absolutely infurating. Other sites can clearly state down to the second how long an item is going to remain on sale.

We're actually now at the point that things like "Eilir Outfit for V4" have been in Fast Grab for about a month and a half, and in that time actually been ineligible for larger discounts (it's offered in the current 75% Flash Sale, but Fast Grab has overridden that discount).

When the flash sales happened on Friday, I noticed that one minute, it would show sale price. The next, it was all full price in cart, then it switched about 4 to 5 times. I nearly almost paid $88 for $30 worth of stuff. Scared the daylights out of me when I went to choose a payment method.

A suggestion for Daz: maybe have countdown clocks for the 4 hour sales banners that appear on the front page? Similar to something like ebay, instagram, and a few other retail websites have for counting down to sales. I'm not sure how the sales banners are programmed (whether or not it can accommodate the coding for one), but I think this will help everyone a lot, and it would look pretty neat.

And here's silly me expecting a company that wants my money to become their's to have someone check out this "peer to peer" forum, which is nonetheless connected to the shop itself, from time to time to see if there is stuff posted that might be of interest for the company.

Well, if they don't check, there seems no interest in feedback, and while a "contact us" button is nice, it probably wouldn't lead to any results either.

And, as stated above, not giving my money to DAZ is not a problem for me, but rather for them, due to them trying to make a living from my (and other people's) money. So I don't really see a need to be the active party here except for stating my position in this forum, which, even though it's peer to peer, would be their best source for reactions about their action or non-actions...

I use reverse phsychology; there is always another sale, and any item will get cheaper.

I have a monthly budget. This silly, hyperactive marketing does nothing more than irritate the heck out of me and smacks of desperation more than anything else. Having flash sales etc means precisely nothing to me if my budget is spent, as there is nothing left to spend. If I have some left in the budget AND the item is on sale AND I want it, I'll get it. Otherwise I won't. As my budget dates are totally inflexible (my employer won't consider a DAZ flash sale as a good reason to pay me early, so I have never tried asking), the end date of a sale is largely irrelevant.

But it would be nice to know.

    Regards,

    Richard.

I have contacted CS several times for a variety of glitches, over-charging, marketing problems, etc... and even directed them to numerous forum links of customer complaints and was told they would pass on the information and nothing has changed. I even PMed a Daz higher up person and got no response. Daz obviously doesn’t care. For this particular issue, how hard would it be to say “Sale ends at 3pm Mountain time” or whatever. They don’t care.

It’s a marketing thing... if it’s 1 pm when you see the sale and it says the sale ends at 6pm, you might go and have a sandwich, clean out your rhinoceros’ litter box, or do your laundry and then when you have a few minutes go over and buy a couple of things you like or need...

Or you might say “Cool, that’s a great sale... But I really should go out for a run first and when I get back in an hour, I’ll shop at DAZ”... then you’ll  go out for a run and before you know it a donkey will fall off the roof of the nearby convent you run past and you’ll get crushed to death by it without buying anything...

But on the other hand if there is no indication of when the sale ends you’ll see a sale and scream “Holy shiznitz!! 13.5 % off all turtle lingerie! Plus an additional 2.7% off if I buy all twelve millennium pachyderm pro bundles!” And you’ll spontaneously rush to the computer and purchase stuff Willy-Nilly without thinking if you need or want it... then after you are finished, you’ll realize you missed your run and will feel guilty and depressed and consume several large vats of Haagen Dazs “Strawberry Cheesecake Deluxe Fourteen Chocolate Swirl” ice cream slathered in Chocolate Cool Whip...  but in the process you’ll miss being crushed to death by that falling donkey, who will instead land on some annoying guy who just parked his Ferrari in a handicapped spot... the same guy who would have later that day run you over and then sued you for jogging erratically and giving him whiplash.

In that scenario, you’ll not only help stimulate the economy by buying lots of stuff, but  you’ll also remain alive, eat lots of ice cream and cool whip keeping both companies busy and providing employment for hundreds of people and help rid the world of a rude jerk who makes handicapped people walk further than they need too.

Unfortunately the donkey was a goner either way, but there was nothing DAZ could do to stop that... it did save you, but only through it’s apparently apathetic marketing ploy which is actually a very complex method of showing how much they love and care for you.

    See.

Hmm......I'm probably DAZ's worst nightmare, 3DL- and Genesis 1 user. So I guess my voice doesn't have much value. I don't even bother to look at new products anymore, I've become a User instead of a Buyer Of New Stuff. If I need something I will look for it. I check my wishlist though on a daily basis, it's full of Gen4 stuff and the occasional new prop/environment. But I want to say that I've not seen this kind of marketing anywhere else in this world, and I'm totally fed up with it. I understand though that people want the new stuff, and looking at the sales threads going on here I draw the conclusion that being a DS user is as much making art as it is participating in the sales. So the DAZ strategy obviously works. Still I'm baffled that they can't sort out the glitches with the sales. I mean...if it would happen once in a while, totally understandable, but it is EVERY TIMEsurprise. And still they are able to keep a vast number of loyal customers...nowhere else in the world would this be possiblelaugh. It is not logical, it is magical. Oh well...
