product installation questions
in The Commons
Hi everyone, I have to ask for advice about product installation. Recently I had to uninstall Studio Daz waiting for my new computer. I have almost 2000 products that I will have to install. My problem is that the products installed with DIM occupy me 400GB in my hard disck. This is not acceptable. My computer slows me down. I ask you for a suggestion to make sure that it occupies the necessary sweeper on my hard disk. Thank you

I'm sorry I don't understand -what do you mean by "sweeper"?
sorry I was wrong to write. I meant how can I install my products on daz without using all that space on my hard disk?
The products have many large maps, it adds up. My library takes up over a TB of space. Keeping the library on a seperate hard drive from the operating system is a good practice.
ok, do you say on an external hard drive?
An external should work fine, especially if you have usb3. I use to use external, but these days I have 6 internal hard drives.
If you "google" move daz studio content new drive, you will see a wealth of discussions of one of the most commonly asked questions. Daz Studio, Content Manager, and DIM can be configured to install on any disk you want. Most people use an external drive. There are some official documents (Richard Hasetine has patiently explained the techniques) and many other discussions which all end up doing the relatively easy configuration to install in a place that is bigger.
When I install with DIM there is a box that you can check that says: delete the folder once installed. Does this help save memory?
It saves disc space, not memory.
I did not find any discussion about the configuration. If I install Daz on a hard disk and Dim on an external disk, does everything work correctly? Are there any disadvantages in this regard? Thank you
I'm not sure why you'd want to - DIM is not a large package, just over 62MB, but I can think oif no reason for it to fail as long as the drive identifier was the same each session..
yes, but all the products that I should install with Dim exceed 500 GB. I already had to uninstall daz twice with all the products because they took up space on my hard disk
You don't need to install DIM on the same disk as the downloaded products or the installed content. You can put things almost anywhere you want, just configure DS and DIM accordingly.
OK thanks. I am currently installing the products. I have always used the mac and now with windows I find myself in trouble. I purchased this card https://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B01F9G46Q8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 where I would like to put all the products but I see that it is installing on disk C instead of on disk D as I told it. I got something wrong in the configuration
You must tell DIM where you want it to put the downloaded files here:
Ok, so what do you recommend now? to uninstall DIM? I have almost 2000 products and even if my new computer is much faster it has been working for 2 hours and has not yet finished installing the products. Would you advise me to stop the installation? ... Thanks for the reply
I'm not sure exactly what you are doing, but if it's working and you are OK with where things are I suggest you just leave it that way. Among others because DIM creates some mainfest files with hardcoded paths which means that if you move the content library (My DAZ 3D Library) it will confuse DIM. It can be fixed but it's a bit complex.
The best thing is to set things up as you want them from the beginning, and then install the content with DIM.
I didn't configure it correctly. Isn't there a simple guide to help me configure Install Manager? I can't afford to keep the folders like My DAZ 3D Library on the hard drive, the ones with product installation ... I searched on Google, but the guides I found do not help me. I hope I explained myself in an understandable way. My English is very scholastic and this also creates difficulties for me. Thank you
Your english is fine, no problems with understanding you.
How do you want to have things set up? Which drives do you have, how much space do you have on them, and where do you want to place the different things, like My Daz 3D Library and downloaded install files (if you want to keep these, otherwise DIM can delete them after they have been installed, to save disk space)?
Personally I recommend setting things up like this, for different reasons:
C: (system drive):
All programs including DAZ Studio and DIM and associated files and data which are necessary for the programs to function.
F: (data drive - any other drive than the system drive, D:, E:, F: or whatever ):
All user files and data that can be placed on other drives than the system drive. In this case:
DAZ install and manifest files
My Daz 3D Library
DAZ Studio folder
yes, that's exactly what I would like. My Daz 3D Library folders
on disk D, but I didn't understand how to do ... thanks
So My Daz 3D Library is on C: now? In that case I'll suggest removing/uninstalling everything and start all over from the beginning. Otherwise it can get complicated.
In the past I have experianced the occasional problem when installing many (smart) products at the same time with DIM
in so far as eg: install 10 products and maybe one or two do not get registered as smart (when they indeed are)
They appear as installed in DIM but are not tagged as smart nor does DAZ3D smart tab display then as smart
simply removing said products, quitting DIM, then restarting DIM. and then reinstalling the problem products tends to solve the problem
This has been much less of a problem since I installed all of my DIM files (downloads.thumbnails, etc) on an internal SSD
where it had originally been held on a fast (7200 rpm) internal HDD
However I still only install 3 or 4 products at one time, then check DIM to see if they are tagged as smart and then refresh DAZ3D smart products and see if they appear there too
if they don't (very rare now) then it's a simple job to uninstall them in DIM and repeating (line 2 above) fixes the problem
So I suggest only installing 3 or 4 products with DIM and then checking (as indicated above) to see if everything is ok, OK ?
Thanks. I'm installing everything on disk D. I've tried some products, but I can't do 3 or 4 at a time ... I don't finish anymore. He is currently installing them all correctly. I didn't understand what you mean by smart products ...
It doesn't sound as if this is what you are doing, but be aware that if you install a product with DIM and then also install it using Connect, things go wonky. Even if you uninstall the product again with DIM before installing it with Connect, things go wrong. The other way round - first install with Connect, then uninstall again with Connect and then install with DIM doesn't seem to cause any problems.
I reported this last year and they said that it's supposed to be that way, you can only install a product one way - either with DIM or Connect.
installation was not successful. It took over most of my hard drive. It also does not allow me to do the simulation
Please don't post images of nude figures.
Have you changed your patsh in Install Manager and in Daz Studio?
On dForce, what is your GPU (video card)?
Thank you. it's a geforce gtx 1060. But luckily I solved it, I just had to update the driver. Everything seems to be working fine. I haven't tested any features yet, like the clothing converter.
