Image compression exagerated in renders. [Solved]

When I render (iray) a .jpg or .png of a picture that is UV mapped to a plane, the image compression flaws get exagerated.

See my attached screenshot. In that screenshot, notice how white blotches bleed outward from the black lines into the blue background.

Is there a way to fix this?

  • You can adjust the compression thresholds in the Advanced tab of Render Settings.

    Thanks, Richard. That fixes it.

The way to use the compression thresholds is apparently this:

Set the value of the "High Threshold" equal to the largest pixle dimention of the image. E.g., if using a 1000 by 1676 image, set the High Threshold to 1676.

The "Medium Threshold" that controls when medium compression kicks in, is of little consequence to my particular render here. So It could be set lower than 1676, making it kick in, and the render still looks ok to me.
