    Use this with google search:

    site:www.daz3d.com/forums/ topic

Paste over the word topic with what you're looking for. There is a space you may not notice between the / and topic.

There is a script on Ati's site that redirects forum searches to Google. Scroll down to get it.

  • I always use Google to search as suggested. Searches within the Daz forums hit on all words singly, and don't take into account the phrase.

I'm not sure why DAZ don't opt for the Google site search instead of the hopeless search facility they have now. The one thing I have noted with Google, however, is that it can complain if you do too many searches in the same day. It asks you to verify that you are not some kind of bot from what I remember. Not sure whether that applies to the Custom Site Search that I linked above.

...I remember back in the day when the site and forums were pretty much "homegrown", the forum search had filters which allowed you to narrow your search down in several different ways such as timeframe, by thread, by individual post, by member name, etc. It wasn't perfect but a darn side better than what we currently have.  Now it hits every post that has one or more of the keywords which you enter making it about as useful as just manually sifting through the contents pages and forum menu.

I remember that time too, the old forum has perfect.searching a thig has more better and definited. For all money we gave to DAZ, asking for a normal forum search, is ask a lot?

For all the money you give Daz, they give you great 3D products. :) Daz is not a search-engine company, nor a forum-engine company. They use 3rd party software for the forum, and this is what it knows. (To be fair, most forum engines have a totally bad built-in search functionality.) If this limited search is not enough, you can always use google (or any other search engine of your choice). As @Fishtales mentioned above, I even made a script that seamlessly converts the built-in search box into a google search for you.

...as mentioned though using Google search too frequently can trip the bot flag.

Also it still doesn't always pinpoint the exact information you are looking for either.   Often times when I click on a link after searching It doesn't put me on the exact post that has what I am looking for and I end up having to scroll if not even page around to find the information.  The old forum search was much more precise.

I can't comment on the old forum search. We've had this forum for the past 4 years since I've been around.

    The google search is limitied.
A word-combo and wildcard search, a timespan abiltiy and an ability to search just certain threads and sub-groups is sort of 'basic hygiene" of a search engine. Even Youtube's search is better than the one wev'e got here. Back when I used to be a forum moderator I tied a freeware search to the forum instead of the 'included' one, and it worked really well. The only thing the users had to do was logging on that search functionality once and then they could use it how much they desired.

  • Wait - Ati is a person?! I thought Ati was a bot or something that Daz made to help me buy - OMG, Ati! I LOVE your what's-on-sale notifications! Daz can singlehandely thank you for every purchase I've made for the past few months!

I dont even search for sales - now I wishlist EVERYTHING and wait for Ati's notices and BAM! I'm hitting BUY-DAT so fast!

(I do search the sales once Im on the site, however)

Yes, I'm a person, and that is my actual name (well, short name), so I haven't even been too creative with that. :D

Yeah, the good ol' days. I still don't like coming here, and didn't come here for a long time after the switch.

The old one was like Unicorns and Rainbows.  This is like Freddy's Nightmare.

Yes, I have no complaints about the products (well, maybe a few but that's for another topic) but the forum is where we get to discuss those products. Your efforts at making buying easier by informing us of sales and providing browser add-ons has been a boon to both buyer and seller (DAZ should really find some way of rewarding you). The forum remains, however, the one place we can all find out more about those great products: any glitches, how they work, how best to render, etc., etc. How would most of us have fared with something like dForce were it not for the forum? DAZ don't do very well on the tutorial, documentation and user support aspects of the product cycle. Much of that is handled by enthusiastic users just like you. So the least DAZ could do is provide a fit-for-purpose forum, there are better ones out there.
