You know your a Daz newbie when:

You spend ages trying to install the templates files.

You constantly apply poses/expressions etc while having hair/clothes/prop etc selected instead of the figure (and yes I still do this one).

Your content library would be beyond the world's best minds to decipher the folder structure.

You forget to save your scene often and before rendering - only for it to crash 2 minutes later.

You finally get your render finished then close daz before saving the outcome.

Installing plug ins still scare you.

You never open the parameters tab just because ....... (it's scary).

Let me know your newbie mistakes (especially the ones you still do) so I know I am not the only one.

TIC.

I've done just about all those (and still do occasionally).  Also, nothing shows up in my smart content, then I realize I had typed a word in the search box previously.

It takes you a good ten minutes to get G8 dressed in the "basic wear," because you can't remember which folder stuff is in. And you scream in frustration because clothes refuse to go on the character. The fact that you're clicking and clicking on a texture, and not the actual wearable geometry, doesn't occur to you. Finally, you accidentally click the right outfit.

You choose the 3DL textures, because the Iray ones look so shiny and oily, you come to the conclusion they're an old format that doesn't really work. Then you render in Iray, and don't understand why everything looks so plastic-ish.

Cool little tip, regarding that. I've found that dforce clothing drapes a LOT better when you don't fit it to characters and you actually apply the preset to the item itself. Once you pose your character either do the same pose preset on the clothing (as you are doing now, accidentally) or go to edit --> Copy Figure and the Paste To Figure on the clothing. I found this especially true with women and dresses, trying to prevent the whole "wet shirt" vaccuum sealing clothing to the breasts which has plagued DS for it's entire existance.

You panic because you don't have a lot of spendable money right now and the sale might end before you get paid!

( pro tip: there's always another sale! )

I did not discover how to do shadows in 3DL on my own.  It took someone else, whom I introduced to Daz Studio, to show me how it was done.

You spend hours trying to increase the dpi to get a bigger render.
