There is so much to choose from and it can be overwhelming. Trying to get the most I can for my money. I lack clothe choices for G8 M & F and want to get some. I am making a wish list but recommendations are welcome. Some items get quite expensive.
Thanks

It kind of depends on the genre of renders you do. Your characters shouldn't be wearing business suits in post-apocalyptic hellholes. But, assuming contemporary renders, if you're just looking for some basic clothes for the characters:
Genesis 8 Female MEGA Wardrobe
Genesis 8 Male MEGA Wardrobe
Formal MEGA Wardrobe for Genesis 8 Female
dForce Casual Closet for Genesis 8 Female
and
dForce Casual Closet Skirt Collection for Genesis 8 Female
all by outoftouch. None are on sale at the moment, unfortunately, but those packs will give you a set of clothes appropriate for a variety of situations, especially if you also spring for the texture packs ShanasSoulmate makes for them. Also
IH Kang
makes a variety of basic wear clothes for both figures that work for everyday situations.
I sympathize. Even though I don't use much G8, G3 (& even some older items) can still be out of my budget. Check out the Freebies forum, which includes models from many sites. It is wonderful, with high quality models. There are stickied threads for many product types (e.g., Hairs). A number of people who make freebies have their own threads to announce new items, and there's even one for posters to link to temporary free items they've discovered. I also suggest looking at the threads for the monthly free render challenges. Every entry includes link to the free models used.
For specific clothing models, the kinds of clothing you're looking for and the genre/s would help the people who are more familiar than I am, to make good recommendations for you. With paid content, if it's not something you'll use, it's not budget-friendly for you. Not even if the price is low and it's a big set.
Yeah what mwokee said, I load a gift card with a said amount and wait for the sales.
Something else that can save you a lot of money is Platinum club membership. There are PC+ clothing that costs $4.99 or less for G8.
I find it useful to follow a few rules when shopping for digital clothes as it is for real clothes.
1. Buy clothes with lots of pieces - the more you get into this the more you'll learn to kitbash. The more parts a set has the more kitbashing opportunties
2. Buy clothes that has a lot of material options - there are a few vendors who include lots of options for their clothes so you don't have to invest in an add-on right away
3. Start with the basics and work from there - depending on what you render there are some basic things you need no matter the niche
4. Invest in some good shaders - learning how to change textures will increase your wardrobe options
5. Never pay retail! - there are some amazing freebies out there and there are some great deals in the various stores. We've had some really good ones this month.
6. Invest in the scipts to help fit older content to new models - these work really well and older content can be updated with new shaders and textures
7. Build up slowly and adjust as your needs adjust
Good luck!
Nikisatez's multi dress system and the expansion pack are pretty handy. You can make a lot of different dresses out of them.

Don't really know what kind of renders you're going for, so I'll leave it at that. Should give you an idea where to start.
older generation clothing fits on G8 characters ... there are programs to help do this, or autofit built into DS works very well. Certain things more diufficult, but buying the older gen clothing, G2 qand G3 works pretty well.
So just a few days ago there was a huge G2 sale when a lot of stuff was less than $5. Some even less than $1.
PC+ will save you a lot as previously stated.
A lot to absorb - will let you know what I get - thank you
