Who are your favorite non-rockstars?

PetercatPetercat Posts: 2,322

Everyone recognizes the Rock Stars, but who are your favorite less-famous artists, and why?

I'm not sure if Maclean counts as less-famous, but I rarely see them mentioned in the "Favorite PA" threads. They're one of my favorites because their products are so useful that I couldn't create without them. There's something from the "Everyday Morphing Primitives" or the "Everyday" lines in just about every scene I create. Plus, Maclean is one of the PAs who comes on the forums and communicates with the users.

Then there are Demian and Yura, who create such great Sci-Fi outffits and texture add-on packs for them.

Code 66, great props and useful scripts for all occasions. Did I mention their useful scripts?

So, who has a less-famous favorite or two to mention?

Ron's Photoshop brushes by Deviney. I can create effects no one else can copy or duplicate easily.

Seconding Maclean and Deviney. Maclean's Pizzeria with some stuff hidden was my preferred medieval/biblical/rustic set for years. I don't do as much postworking anymore (and my preferred Photoshop brush converter, abr viewer, is no longer compatible with brushes made for the latest versions of PSP), but deviney's brushes were my go-to when I did do that stuff.

Alot of the "old school" PAs who are no longer creating new products here continue to pay dividends: Valea and the 3Dream/Mairy team went in for very exotic, imaginative hairstyles that in many cases still hold up today with fresh shaders on them; Questor, who made a bunch of cool firearms back in the day; Silverkey (just converted their donkey to Iray recently); the gentleman behind Songbird Remix, whose name I can't think of right now.

In terms of people who are active now who maybe don't get the recognition they deserve: the Danie/Marforno team make great set/prop/pose combos; Toyen and Oskarsson work separately but both have a gift for looking outside the box when it comes to creating new outfits, especially dforce; Mada, Lyrra Madril and Anna Benjamin are also very imaginative in the way they approach clothing-they may not be obscure, but I feel like they are taken for granted at times; Lyoness makes women with alot of personality and great skins/materials; Parrotdolphin is my go-to for clothing shaders.

I love kitbashing and shader sets, so my favorite rarely mentioned PA s are Parrotdolphin and Destinysgarden. I was really hoping one of them would come out with an East Asian themed shader pack with Kayla.

Nirvy and Kaleya at Renderosity for their great Dforce items

Arryn at Rendo and here for their heels, hose and jewelry

3feetwolf and meipe for their 3rd party gens (renderotica) which I can't do without.

    Aako for the amazing environments

Anain and Akasha for their great characters, especially the mothers and daughters one for GF3 and the new one for GF8

Prefox for their heels, keep them coming!

Porsimo for their weapons and poses

Shimuzu for the amazing pose sets

I've never thought of myself as a 'rock-star' PA (like, say, Stonemason). I think of myself as the guy who 'makes the pots and pans' of 3D.

I mean, hey.... everyone needs pots and pans, so someone has to provide them, right?

But a big thanks for the kind words!! Knowing people use my products keeps me going.

TwiztedMetal, Belladzines just to name 2.  TwiztedMetal for the unusual faces and Belladzines for the beautiful bodies and skins.

They fit in a lot of scenes and fill a lot of empty niches. Thanks.

Howie Farkes - I love, love, love UltraScatter products.

  • barbultbarbult Posts: 26,668

V3Digitimes - Scene Optimizer, A Touch of Dirt, Super Save, Pose Mixer, etc. Very useful scripts. I bet I use one or more of her scripts on almost every render.

Riversoft Art - Look at Me Pose Control. Again, used in almost every render with any figure with eyes.

Lully at Rendo got me started using dforce

Well your “pots and pans” and all your inside sets have served me well for many a year.

My inductees are OOT, DM, stonemason.

I'd like to mention a few of the non commercial artists that left a big impression over the years: Kozaburo, Jan19, Bagginsbill, Snarlygribbly, skipper25, DarthJ, Chohole, Birdman, Wilmap. They are rockstars in my book....

Oooh, if we're going over to the Other Side (Rendo), there's Deva3D for female characters with beautiful skins and makeup, and Applejack for dystopian, ruined, old and new interiors and environments.

    Full-body makeup in many cases!

Now I'm picturing you in a really cool medieval outfit pushing a Tinker's cart down some sunny back road in old England.

Yes, I have some cool retro future sets by him too. And I'd like to plug cybertenko (Halo Props for Religious Art! In every style known to man or woman!) also from Rendo, and xurge3d from his own site. Of the freebie makers, I like the handiwork of Chohole, jan19, dyald (whose tutorial taught me how dformers worked), Rosemaryr (Poser dynamics that often cooperate with dforce) and many others.

AllenArt's freebies were also always excellent, they will be missed.

Yes, Laurie made some of the best free jewelry, shaders and props around. I hope she gets her mojo back and takes up the hobby again someday. It is a shame to waste skill like hers.

I considered Kindred Arts a rockstar. That is why I did not include him in my list.

...I have pretty much all of the Razor Rider series as well as the Post Apocalyptic Bar. Perfect props and gritty settings for my Cyber Future illustrations.

I am a HUGE Chris Schell fan!!!! He used to have his own store but due to life circumstances has had to slide into the background for a while. He has done a ton of WW1 & 2 stuff and then some manga/anime vehicles, some of it closer to the actual anime and some more inspired by. He still has some of his stuff available over at Rendo though Vanishing Point, and it is on that store page as well. If you are into transforming fighter jets like those from Robotech he aimed to put a more realistic look to his. And he created his own invasion force craft inspired by the Zentradi. He also has some great freebies as well!

I really like Raya's characters and especially love Perfectly Imperfect skin. I wish s/he'd make more of same quality skins
