Adding lines to my Rendered image in PS

Hi, I guess this is more of a photoshop question, but people are always helpful here :)   I'd like to add lines add to my  rendered daz background to make it look more hand drawn.

I export the image to photoshop, convert to grayscale, and go to filter >stylize > find edges. I realize there are other filters that do this, so please suggest others filters if you like them more..Topaz?  Using the native PS filter, I get a version of  my image in white with black lines. The article I read suggests laying the white/line layer over the original and adjusting transparency, but I find this degrades the original. What Id like to do is to remove the white from the fitlered image and keep only the black lines, then lay lines only on top of the original. If this makes sense, can anyone suggest a way to achiev ethis? Thanks!
