I miss Bijou's insane price

Has been in my wishlist since I first saw the character at $1000 or however much it was. Daz really need another character like Bijou, with an insane price and some interesting additions - seeing the price always made me smile.

Just noticed that the price had been reduced to more normal character prices; and figured to see how she transferred to G8. Manual morph transfer, and used the other site's transfer system for the textures. (Not cause I think it's better). Seemed to transfer pretty well.

    She was apparently a character that would be given to people on certain occasions. I never understood what was special about her though.

    I believe she was some sort of promotional figure but didn't seem to go anywhere; others, I'm sure, know more.

    ... And I'm pretty sure was more than 1000 too.

    I never noticed her before either--or a couple other characters in the G2 sale. And that price is crazy. The only time I've seen model prices like that was the April Fool's Day Donkey. On the sales page it was some crazy 3 or 4 digit price, but dropped to $0 in the cart.

    IIRC she was a bonus item gifted to some people at one point, so Daz had put an insanely high price on her so that regular people didn't purchase her.

    I'm not sure it was $1000; but it was at least several hundred, At the time it was satated that DAZ wanted to give it as a gift in certain instances and it had to in the store to do that; But since it was to be special gift DAZ didn't really want other purchases of it.

    I remember $250, or $350, maybe. I think it was a gift for special customers, priced out of reach for the casual user. Suddenly she appeared in Fastgrab one day (late Oct 2017, according to my orders) for a little over $5. Everyone thought it was a mistake and snatched her up before someone realized it. By then Genesis 2 was getting a little long in the tooth, so that kind of promotion was not so hot anymore.

    According to the Wayback Machine she was $349.95 back in 2015.

    I remember when I first started here I had asked about her price and some said that she was given as a birthday gift by Daz3D to the customers on their birthday.

    Been an active customer here since just after Genesis 1 was released (account is older than that though), and I've never received her on any birthday.

    I receved a free copy of Bijou several years ago for a posting that I made here on the forums... I no longer remember what for or exactly when, but it was post iray as I never did a 3DL render of her... so at least a few of the moderators had the ability to give her out.  A really nice character but the price and the exclusivity were all that made her different from any other figure.

    Yeah, I remember that too. I also made a comment on that thread and then suddenly I had a copy of her in my account. I think it was DazRawb that played Santa Claus on that one.

    hahah I think that's pretty common - humans tend to want what they can't have. We also tend to value something based on the price not the actual product or quality. Marketing studies have proven that. It's weird and kind of sad how the human psyche works. :P

    Well,it would explain why I heard one of those big-stick waving people muttering "“Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn."  I thought it was Welsh at the time.

    Right, I remember now.  It was kind of like Candyman... Say Bijou a couple of times and suddenly she's in your product library.  ;)

    Unless it was a different thread, I remember some guy bragging that he bought her... people in that thread were flabbergasted, but apparently the guy claimed he could well afford it and he routinely spent crazy sums of money on nonsensical things... Although for some reason the sum of $1000 is connected to that memory, so I’m wondering if it was Cujo... uh, Bijou...

    I think that thread was probably right after the figure showed up in the store and someone started a thread about whether that price was correct... ?

    That would explain why Richard Haseltine has that silhouette of Cthulhu in the top right corner of his avatar...

    I won Bijou in a guessing game in the forum. I had to guess what number the moderator was thinking of.

    I think she's a nice character, I've rendered her a few times. But she isn't worth $1000 (sorry, Bijou sad)

    Well, I was really just trying to be funny (failed). I havent purchased her really because I dont work that often with G2 anymore.

    I know what you mean though; I've had a few items in my wishlist that when they finally dropped to a good level (that I noticed), I just removed them.
