stuck in wireframe display

I did something that threw all of my avatars into a wireframe display. I want to see it with the general surface. How do I get back to that?

I'm referring to the default surface for objects.

    cmd(Mac)/ctrl(Win)-9 wills et DS to texture shaded. cmd/ctrl plus the number keys 1-9 is a quick way of going through the display modes
