In Praise of G8 Facial Expressions

So, I make CG comics.

I got into DAZ during G3's heyday. When G8 came out, I was honestly a little miffed. I'd spent a lot of money on G3 and I was afraid no new content would be available for me. But I turned out not to have anything to worry about. The wonderful PA's continued to develop lots of stuff for G3, and the majority of G8 is mostly compatible with G3.

I still bought G8 stuff because I'm a DAZaholic, but it went unused.

However, recently I started a new project and decided to use G8 just for fun. I was shocked. The difference between facial expressions is huge!

For those of you who create static shots, or non-dramatic renders, this might not be obvious. However, my characters often find themselves in highly-charged and emotional situations. Previously, their facial expressions were... well... fine. They served a purpose.

Now?

Many of the facial expressions breathe life to the character in a way they hadn't before! They uncanny valley is narrowing, and it's a huge step up from G3. And I didn't think I'd be ever say that because I was fairly unimpressed with the "improvements" when I read them back in the day.

So for all the awesome PA's out there making G8 facial expressions, keep up the amazing work and thank you for making this creator's work a bit better!!!

Now just go to RiversoftArt's store and get the converters for G3 clothes and hair to use on G8 and that's a happy too.

The facial rigging and the ability to quickly and easily adjust or change the expressions with the PowerPose tool is one of the main reasons why I have trouble using older figures, I'm just too spoiled by Genesis 8. lol

I LOVE converting older figures to Iray, I find it a lot of fun, but then I go to set up the scene and have to work 3 times as hard to get an expression that I like and I'm like - dang it, I miss G8 and the facial rigging and PowerPose. lol The improved G8 bends is also quite missed with some of the poses with older figures. I'm like - YIKES! That does not look right. lol

Already done. As a policy, I buy anything RA makes, LOL.

Yes, although this took me longer to appreciate. The G3 poses are generally pretty good, especially if you use some of the add-on's.

Oh yeah, G3 poses pretty well I think. :) I think products like Ultimate Natural help but even without it G3 has pretty decent bends. Definitely improved over G2 and older, but it seems every new gen gets a bit better and better with the bends and muscle flow.
