Billboards or actual low poly props? Its hard to tell from the promos. I expect props from Magix, but some of the promos have me questioning.

They look like billboards from the promos. Glad you asked because with instancing I find no use for billboards.

From the description: "Each tree and grass object has several morphs that offer extensive control over the appearance, plus 29 MAT files that further offer a huge variety of tree and grass possibilities."

In my general experience, billboards don't have morphs, or mats. There is also a promo showing "Scene Objects".

I looked at these but there is just not enough info to decide to buy. It says low poly, but how low? Basic stuff like that. Plus, ass you say, it is not clear what these items actually are.

Just thought. If I did risk buying them, plus some PC stuff on today's offer, then wanted to return the trees if they are not what I expect.... What about the reduced PC stuff?

They look like billboards... no way that pine tree could be low poly and still have full needles like that.

The low poly reference may be to the fence or other elements of the set, but the trees look like (very good) billboards.

If someone takes the chance, could you let the rest of us know? ;-)

Look closely at the images of the trees the trunks look flat, rather than round, there is no depth so they will be billboards.

If like other magic stuff I own are 3D cutout pillows

They could be low-poly rectangles (maybe 40x40 or something) with the ability to twist and bend, and are transmapped with billboard images, like Jepe's FlameZ or ElementZ and the like.

Apologies, my previous statement was based on a poor assumption.

Billboards or objects didn't matter to me because Magix 101 hasn't disappointed me. However I did open the product in Studio and the trees are curved billboards. They do have some interesting morphs in the Parameters>Actors tab, whic allow them to look quite different. Screenshots attached.

So they are billboards. That's.... a shame.

I bought them, then discovered they were indeed billboards. I have asked to return. I am sure they are great, but I wanted 3d trees. A badly described product listing :(

It's a sorry state of affairs when an important detail like this isn't even included in the product description. One would think it would be manditory (DAZ policy) for PAs to do so. All the other billboard products clearly state they're billboards but apparently this one can get away with not saying so. I'm not suggesting it's intentional, but just that it's poor customer service and standards.

many things have billboards and don't say so, I don't think its an issue in itself but if someone wants to ask like the OP here then people can by all means let them know

Here’s another question... Are these designed to alway face the camera?

A long while back there was a discussion about either making billboards always face the camera, or something like that... I know it’s a thing in other programs, but I forgot if billboards (as products) automatically do that in DAZ.

    Yeah splats

I do believe it’s possible but whether or not these do another matter
