Can I fix an element of a chain or reverse it's direction?
Now, please excuse me if I'm using the wrong terms here or if I fail to express myself properly - english isn't my main language and I'm not too familiar with the Daz Studio specific technical terms.
With that out of the way, there's an issue I keep running into and I never found a good solution for and I hope some of you knowlegable individuals can lend me a hand there:
When I'm working with objects that consist of a chain of sub-objects, like a (doh!) chain, or a rope, or a hose or whatever, I'll move one end of this object to the place where I want it to be situated. And sometimes it's the "logical" choice, too - like a handle or something. And then, when I move on to the next element down the line and start adjusting it's properties, I notice it's moving the wrong end of the object, i.e. instead of moving the pieces of the rope down the line from the handle, it moves the handle. This is driving me insane.
Is there a way to fix the element I placed in ... well, in place and prevent it to be moved? I tried locking it's coordinates in place, but that does not work. Or any other way to reverse the order in which the elements of the chain are moved?
Thank you all so much in advance

Yes, if you are using the Universal tool there is a pin icon at top-right of the viewport gizmo - you can pin rotation or translation. The Public beta has just rolled out some improvements to this.
When you have positioned the handle or end bone where you want it, use the active pose tooll to pin it to stay in place (with the toggle pin on/off) while dragging one of the unpinned bones. Takes a bit of practice, but once you understand how the tool works you will find it very useful;) You can choose to pin at origin, end or both. Pinning both will prevent the bone from rotating also.
My apologies, I didn't get to try this out earlier.
I couldn't get the approach suggested by Richard to work - I could pin both rotation and translation, but if I went on to move a section of the chain down the line, it'd still replace the one I had just pinned down to wherever.
Sven, your approach worked fine, though. As you mentioned, it's not very intuitive if you have not used it before, but I COULD pin down the element I did not want to move, the rest will hopefully come with practice.
Thanks a lot!
You're welcome:)
Care to ellaborate on the improvements, Richard? Tks!
I'm not sure how effective an account I can give, but they are listed in the new release thread and in the Change Log http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/change_log#private_channel
