G8F mystery dsf

So, i was checking the error log and I came accross this error:

2019-05-17 00:08:03.823 WARNING: fileinput\dzassetdaz.cpp(7814): Could not find reference: Genesis8Female:/data/DAZ%203D/Genesis%208/Female/Morphs/3D%20Universe/G8F/ctrlMouthOH.dsf#ctrlMouthOH?value
2019-05-17 00:08:03.823 WARNING: fileinput\dzassetdaz.cpp(1447): Failed to create alias!

I don't have the faintest clue where this reference is coming from though.  I can't find anything anywhere about this dsf, not even what product/item might contain it.

Any Ideas?

It says 3D Universe - do you have any Genesis 8 Female products from 3D Universe?

Yes, but none of them have that dsf.  I can't even find what product or item is calling that reference.

I think it is some product that has a corrective morph, or something, that is set up to use the one it can't find, but it doesn't matter, you don't have it. Many products have "supported shapes" for base characters or other products with morphs. If you don't have those specific products, the references cannot be resolved, but they will never be used if you don't have the product that uses them in the first place, so no harm to your system.

I had exactly same error WARNING: fileinput\dzassetdaz.cpp(7814): Could not find reference: Genesis8Female:/data/DAZ%203D/Genesis%208/Female/Morphs/3D%20Universe/G8F/ctrlMouthOH.dsf#ctrlMouthOH?value

and had been trying to cure it for a while. Eventually cleared it. I did two things don't know which one worked.

First I deleted all 3D Universe characters from my People Genesis 8 characters folder and also deleted all 3D Universe from the My Library\data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female\Morphs\3D Universe

strangely in the Data folder I did not have a G8F folder.

The Second thing I did that might well have been the cure was I re installed the Genesis 8 Female Head and Body morphs.

I was hoping that this would have speeded up the loading of my Genesis 8 but she still takes just over 2 mins to get ready - women :)

As I said, these warnings (not errors per se) are harmless, there's no need to go to great lengths trying to resolve them.

Harmless or not they do show a large flaw is Studio's design, or more specific the CMS.

The problem is usually corrupt or badly done metadata, add the CMS which is a thick as a brick big brother system, and you have Studio being forced to try and load crap that doesn't exist where it's being told to look for it.

These messages have nothing to do with the CMS. There's a link in the .dsf file saying link with property X (ERC links get saved with either the controller property or the sub-component) and property X is not present (the .dsf file is not installed). The warnings may be useful for a content creator troubleshooting, so they shouldn't be suppressed, but they can be ignored by general users.

The warning i get alot is

    2019-05-18 19:31:06.473 *** Scene Cleared ***
2019-05-18 19:31:17.653 WARNING: libpng warning: iCCP: known incorrect sRGB profile

2019-05-18 19:31:23.752 WARNING: libpng warning: iCCP: known incorrect sRGB profile

I always asumed it had to do with old 3dl sss maps or texture profiles because of the SRGB profile  . but when ever I have a crash when i am rendeingr its always these last warning messages that are the last thing recorded in the log .

It's irrelevant to pretty much anything - it's just a message from the image handling library about the PNG thumbnails etc. It has, I think, been suppressed in recent builds of DS.

The point isn't whether or not the warning is harmless, it's to identify the source of the warning.  Up till now, I've been able to identify where almost every warning I've come across is coming from, and solved the issue causing the warning.  This is the first time I've gotten a warning message that so far isn't solvable.

OK, found it and fixed it.  3DU's Paige character, the alias_head_ectrl_3dug8fpaigemouthah.dsf file had an incorrectly set target channel.

  • MistaraMistara Posts: 38,675

how do you fix a target channel?  thanks!

  • nightwolf1982nightwolf1982 Posts: 1,136

You have to decompress the dsf file, then find the "target_channel" line.

In this case, I changed the entry for "target_channel" from this:  "Genesis8Female:/data/DAZ%203D/Genesis%208/Female/Morphs/3D%20Universe/G8F/ctrlMouthOH.dsf#ctrlMouthOH?value"  to this:
    "Genesis8Female:/data/DAZ%203D/Genesis%208/Female/Morphs/3D%20Universe/G8FPaige/eCTRL_3duG8FPaigeMouthAH.dsf#eCTRL_3duG8FPaigeMouthAH?value".

Thanks a lot for the explanation and the fix.

I also get similar warnings and hope to fix them at some point.

Good to see, that not only I have such problems.

For now, I have just uninstalled LY Briallen, but hope to fix it later on.

You can still get the error messages if you're using an asset you haven't used before.
