Upscaling for animation (with new photoshop feature) huge render time saver

So this is for those who don't have a good render PC and want to still be to render quicker and still have that 1080P or 4K look.

Ok so right if the bat its not the same as actualy rendring in 1080P or 4K but it's close to it. Most won't even notice the difference.

It not only upscaling as we know it. It's upscaling with the new Preserve Details 2.0 Upscale in photoshop 2018 or 2019 CC (this doesn't work with older photoshop versions).

So without further delay here is how:

2 ways to go:

Rendering in 720P with a result in 1080P

Rendring in 1080P with a result in 4K.

ok, so you probebly know that the lower the resolution the quicker the render right?  wink

But don't go and think why not from 720P to 4K.... i mean come on, thats just wishfull thinking. we do try to keep this real as possible.

So when a render is finsihed and you want to upscale it follow this from youtube: https://youtu.be/4dfJWqklrGY

And ofcourse i hear you thinking yeah.... but im doing animation and i have 300 pics for a 4sec animation and much much more.....

Well simpel solution. photoshop has whats called action recording and you can then batch that process for all you pictures.

So follow this link from youtube: https://youtu.be/hlDY58E1NhM

It simply lets you have only do that action 1 time, and then save it.... and batch the action for all your pictures. What will costs you most of the day for doing 100's maybe 1000's of pics will be done in a few min. (or maybe a little longer).

Hope this tutorial was helpfull for you.

And for those who like to discuss this, leave comments below. Love to read what you think. wink

Happy Rendering

    Thanks for sharing! :D
Artificial intelligence manages to do all kind of things nowaday (if it's what this is about), I'm always enthusiast about these things.

I don't do animations, and so I directly render at 1440/2160p without any noticeable difference compared to 1080p renders, but this is nice to know! :D

The best upscaler I've found is Topaz Gigapixel. It's actually pretty miraculous!

I found I can import my whole scene folder in 1 shot containing all the PNG's for my animation into my film editor  which is Adobe Premiere  at 720p and export my film in  1080hd  or ultra 16.9 @ 4k. I maybe wrong but i believe I read on the adobe site  that you can do it with Adobe premiere elements as well.  being able to import all my png's in one step save a heck of lot of time. But i would imagine any good film editor should be able to do what your suggesting though.

I am lucky i can render animation out natively at 1080. which is giving me the best results.   I have no need for 4k films yet.  Maybe someday if i make stuff for VR I''ll try 4k . It's interesting it takes you 300 png's for a 4 second film what speed you running your animation at?  I when do a 300 keyframe or 300 png's animation I run them at 30 keyframes per second which give me 10 seconds  . Are you running at 42 kfps for 4 seconds I bet it smooth at that rate.:)

I find Premier Pro best for editing video and After Effects best for compositing video.
