Growing UP -- how you deal with skin textures?

davesodaveso Posts: 7,958

as an example: Growing Up for Genesis 8 Female(s) https://www.daz3d.com/growing-up-for-genesis-8-female-s

So ok , you can make younger folk, but their skin is for sure different than a woman at age 30 ... are there textures for younger, young, sort of young, teen, etc etc? Or perhaps from K4 products?

What do you use ???

https://www.daz3d.com/growing-up-skin-bundle-for-genesis-3 works well on G8 male and female. And Angel_Wings' characters from Rendo are another great resource for skins, as are of the materials from some young characters here at Daz.

    Uhm...interesting point!

So far, I've always used the standard texture. Morphs give you a little bit of wrinkles etc.

I would imagine that this is the kind of thing that SkinBuilder might be able to deal with. Although using some of the skins from the official teen characters (without the damn makeup) would work. Maybe some of the Thorne dolls as well. In additipon to things like the Angel Wings characters -- which are excellent, and the new baby skins (although something would need to be done about the plastic shine, but I think that is a shader issue).

The real challenge is to find usable skins for little boys. Most of the male skins have 5:00 shadow to at least some degree, or the texture is too coarse.

I still think Belle 6 has one the best young woman skins around if you are OK with Genesis 2. She has makeup free options and it was easy converting her to Iray, she looks much better in Iray than she does in her own promos. She has some nice eye textures, too.

Probably any character by Thorne will work for this, too. Rarestone Minto, CO Ichigo, and several other characters from Asian PAs will work well. The new Rarestone girl looks to be yet another.

Thorne has made a few male characters, if you need males without 5 o'clock shadows. Luca is for G8. She made a G3 male, too.

Remember that you can also apply G3 Skins textures too. Handy as Ive yet to find too many asian skins for G8 that have really impressed me, too many seem to be caucasian skins recoloured/tinted which tends to look abit off IMO. But to the vendors credit, I know this is hard to do, or else I would be doing it my self.

As for youth morph specifically, I know what you mean, For females I find some skins are not too bad, just the eye brows are usually a problem as they are often way too manacured for a kid and look unatural. and there are still few vendors offering eyebrowless skins, tends to be worse for the males though as adult body hair is an issue and there is less much less choice in store on top of that.

Hell, I pretty much buy character sets just for the Materials, I rarley find myself using the actual shapes, sometimes the head - but never the body really, since the bodies are not usually so different from many of the DazO figures, but will have no supported custom fit morphs in clothing items. - But are different enough to cause unwanted distortion :( - less of a problem with dforce though since you can use it custom fit anything - so long as you include the morph in the simulations animation.

Eyebrows are ultra easy to get rid of and replace. There is a brow remover product in the store, and GIMP or PS can handle the task in less than a minute, and I am no GIMP wizard. Just take the skin right above the brow and heal or clone it over the brow.

However, you might be surprised how many kids have groomed looking eyebrows without really grooming them.

Don't forget about the UV Swap products for G3 and G8. At least for the younger kids, a girl's makeup free, eyebrow free, materials will also work well for a young boy. You can add eyebrows in Skin Builder, if you have it, or use fiber mesh brows; There are several G8 to choose from here (and Redz has G3 over at Rendo.)

Also I guess removing displacements / bumps / hds and increasing translucency / sss may work to get a young look from an adult skin.
