How to save as a Prop

mcorrmcorr Posts: 1,104

I have a bunch of scenes from which I would like to save only certain elements (like a table, etc.) as a prop (which I can save with a preview into a props folder ) so that I can access and load these elements quickly into any scene I create. How do I do that? Saving something as an "asset" (if that's the right things to do) isn't working for me. Could somebody be so kind and walk me thru the steps of what I need to do.

    Select the item.

Go to File > Save As > Support Asset > Figure/Prop Asset

    Fill out the dialogue.

    Done :)

Make sure in your Content tab that you're IN the folder that you want to save the prop to. The first window should be where it's being saved, so be sure to make note of that or migrate to where you DO want to save it. The second window is just meta data and stuff for the data folder.

If they are scenes froms troe products they will already exist as assets, just save a Scene Subset with the item you want the only one checked. Whether you save a subset, or a character preset, or a new asset the file for loading will be the one you specified in the file dialogue; if you can't recall where you saved do another save of the same type and note the location.

Thank you all for kindly answering my question. With your help, I was able to get it done .... and I now know two ways how to do it. Thanks again!

There are also two really good videos by Jen Greenlees on doing this. The first one is more basic, the second is when a "prop" is really something worn/carried like a sword.
