Gen 8 Body Morphs versus Shape Shift

SBibbSBibb Posts: 600

Debating on getting either the Gen 8 Body Morphs (https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-8-male-body-morphs and https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-8-female-body-morphs ) or the Gen 8 Shape Shift Bundle (https://www.daz3d.com/shape-shift-bundle-for-genesis-8-female-s-and-male-s), but I wasn't quite sure of the differences between the two.

Does one offer more flexibilty in body shapes? Is one more for refinement?

I'd love to hear your experiences on the two options.

The genesis base morphs are pretty much a must have, especially since many character sets require them. The shape shift morphs just add even more morph functionality. IMO both are needed, but if you can only get one, then go with the genesis base morphs first.

is there a certain look you are trying to achieve?

Shape shift adds a lot, but the default Gen 8 body (and head) morphs are prerequisites for a huge number of characters (whereas I can't actually immediately recall having seen any character reliant on Shapeshift), so I would definitely get those first.

I'm not going for a particular look at the moment, but I want to be able to create my own characters who look different from each other for a comic (science fiction, so if it can help create a slightly more "alien" body in addition to the usual humans, that would be great). I already have the 200 Plus Head and Face Morphs package.

Since I've only purchased a couple pre-created characters (which I'm currently dial spinning between three to get at least a slightly varying body shape for the female characters) and none of them were reliant on the body morphs, I'm not too worried about character prerequisites (yet). Good to know that may be a concern in the future, though.

Eventually I'd like to have both, but I've also got to budget for the time being.

Mainly I want to be able to create my own characters. If the Gen 8 Body Morphs are more helpful or versatile, then I may lean that direction.

If you are leaning more towards the alien, or sci fi, then the shape Shift might be the better choice as the genesis base morphs are more for normal, everyday type figures.

Another thing to add to your list is the Simtenero randomizer https://www.daz3d.com/simtenero

there are 2 versions, I still prefer the first version, but basically they allow ytou you use any morph you have installed, at any strength, for any part of the body and create random characters. I use it all the time to create my own characters and then tweak even more if needed.

I have only the DAZ Originals Genesis 8 morphs for head & body and it's quite sufficient plus what the dials do is easy to guess based on what they are named.

Shape Shift give additionnal parameters when Body Morphs bring the base.

Thanks for the clarification, everyone. Sounds like what I need to start with is the body morphs to get a general shape, then move to using the shapeshift bundle afterward.

I think I may hold off on getting the shapeshift bundle for now, then, and watch for the body morphs to go on sale. Then maybe I'll see about grabbing the shapeshift one in the future.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look into that. :-)

I have the DAZ morphs and Shape Shift but I also bought the Muscularity HD morphs for G8F (I don't use G8M as I have enough G3M characters to suffice). The Musculature morphs look like overkill (especially if you don't want a super-athlete) but just adding a little muscle detail adds so much to the realism that I use them all the time now.
