Shaders for Feathers?

Anybody know of a good shader that simulates feathers or a feathery down? (Especially one for Iray).

I'm wanting to create a bird-like alien, and I thought about trying to apply some kind of feather shader or to the body to give the appearance of feathers, but I'm not sure what to use.

The body and creature morphs I currently have are for V4 and M4, and most of my stuff is for those and Gen 8, but I'm willing to consider other options if you have suggestions.

In Iray, these two both do a passable job at a short downy type of surface https://www.daz3d.com/leather-and-fur-iray-shaders ; https://www.daz3d.com/dg-iray-fur-flocking-scales-shader-presets ; .  For something longer you'd probably have to use LAMH or step over into 3DL, where AoA's Grass shader can actually work in some cases.  Keep in mind, though, that with any of them except LAMH you don't have much control with any of these as to how the "fur" lays.  As for feathers... I don't know of anything that can do a true feather look since feathers are actual 3D objects that don't have a consistant size from feather to feather, extend beyond the edge of the object being covered , and are rigid so that they don't flex with the body underneath.   To get a believable effect you'd probably have to overlay/wrap the figure in concentric rings of feathers painted on transparent shapes in the same way that hair props are made...

I wonder if ultrascatter would work...

Probably not without more effort that it would be worth.  The thing about feathers is that they're laid out in a very distinctive pattern, with smaller feathers laid next to slightly larger feathers and then larger feathers, etc., with a considerable level of overlap.  You could probably get something like Big Bird, but othewise you've need to use multiple different source feathers and manually place almost all of them...
