If an item in the store says compatible figure"Genesis".. is it compatible with Genesis 8?

I have seen several items...hair, characters, etc in the store that says: compatible figure Genesis... My question is does that mean it fits Genesis, 2, 3, ...8? Or just Genesis (1)?

It means  it is compatible with just Genesis   which is the orginal figure,  so Genesis one if you like.
Genesis 2, 3 and 8 have their own numbers in the compatible figure field.

In any case, there are a lot of converters around, and sometimes it could be a good way to save money to buy a converter and a lot of old clothes, for example! :D

I think the best investment I've made in the Daz3d store was buying the various clothing clones. They let me use clothing across all generations, although some items like shoes and gloves have issues. I generally work with Genesis 3, but most of their clothes are hand-me-downs from earlier generationslaugh.

What are these clones? And how do they work?

A clone is a special kind of morph used by autofit.

Basically autofit works in 2 steps:

    1. It modifies the mesh of the clothes so it's the right shape for the target figure ==> that's where the clone is used, DS more or less "reverses" the clone morph to adjust the mesh
    2. It rigs the mesh automatically as a conforming item for the target figure ==> This step uses a projection template to apply the correct rigging for that type of item

Genesis figures include some clones and templates by default: G8F has clones for G8M, G1, G2F and G3F; G3F has clones for G3M and G2F; and so on. But there are additional ones in the store, like the "Wear them all" products for G3 or SY Ultra templates.

Clones allow you to wear clothing and hair on a different generation figure than what it was originally made for.

This one is one of my favorites: https://www.daz3d.com/wear-them-all-autofitting-clones-and-clothing-smoothers-for-genesis-3-female-s

It's for Genesis 3 Female and allows her to wear clothing and hair that was made for Victoria 4, Michael 4, Genesis 1, and Genesis 2 males.

    These ones are also good:

    https://www.daz3d.com/wear-them-all-autofitting-clones-and-clothing-smoothers-for-genesis-3-male-s

And these are for Genesis 2, that allows Genesis 2 figures to wear clothing and hair made for Genesis 3:

    https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-male-for-genesis-2-male-s

And this one allows Genesis 2 Female to wear clothing and hair made for Victoria 4:

Clones are fantastic because they can expand your favorite character's wardrobe by a LOT. :)
